Mediatek showing off 480FPS@1080P video capability on the MT6795

pretty awesome

http://www.nextpowerup.com/news/18249/mediatek-shows-super-slow-motion-1080p-video.html

Slow-motion videos have become quite popular with iPhone 6 smartphones. There are not many devices that can record 1080p videos at 240fps, but MediaTek is one of them. Actually, the company doubled that number and showed a 480fps slow-motion video.

The video was a teaser of the upcoming MediaTek MT6795 SoC, which according to the company is the world's first smartphone SoC that can capture 1/16-speed video. Judging by some leaked details, the SoC has eight cores clocked at 2.2 GHz and could be a decent Snapdragon 810 competitor. Take a look at the video below.

i completely disagree about it being a 810 competitor its just 8 small  a53

8 cores... what, 8x A53? 8xA9? or even worse? never trust mediatek, since they have never delivered.

its interesting they are putting that much focus on the recording capabilities. this actually means they can do 4K@120FPS, which is not bad at all

Because the 1/16(0.0625)-speed-video is calculated as 30/480(0.0625) not 60/480(0.125)

If the overall performance of this chip is competitive, then it'll certainly make a few heads turn, mine included.

funny how all these people have GoPro 60/120FPS action cameras and they never upload videos in 60 FPS on Youtube.

So many car videos I have watched where 60 fps would have been extremely useful, it was never used.

"Human eyes can't see more than 30fps anyway."

Not another of you people...

The human eye doesn't see in fps, it receives endless streams of light, is there a point where your eyes cannot differentiate one frame rate from another? Yes, though that is certainly much higher than 30 and 60 fps, or even 120fps.

Should put /s or similar at the end of it as sarcasm doesn't work through text.

I put it in quotation marks...

On topic, this seems like glorious overkill that I would like on my GoPro. That kind of slow motion at 1080p would be insane. High FPS is one thing, but not nuking your light sensitivity at the same time is another. 480fps means that 240fps would be absolutely stunning at 1080p and not require copious amounts of external lighting.

Those who have shot 720p@240 know what I mean, you need a lot of external lighting to balance things out.
