Almost a no brainer buy if you're looking for a good set of headphone. I have HD600 though which sounds similiar to K7xx :(

PSA: I'm willing to sell my K7XX to someone atm, I think it deserves to be in the hands of someone who will use it more.

I think @NannerBeans also posted a WTS of K7xx with HD600. I have an HD600, but idk if K7xx will fit me O.o

I missed the first drop and had money to burn from a holiday bonus so I bought the AKG K712, which I've grown to love over the past month.  I STILL bought in on this drop because I'm very interested to see how the 7XX compares.  While not a basshead can, the K712 is definitely NOT lacking in bass.  In fact I think I would trade a bit of their bass for a bit more sound stage and upper treble data retrieval, something closer to the K701 I used to own.  Maybe the K7XX will be the compromise I'm after!

I thought driver in K712 = K7xx = annie?

The driver is only a small part of what determines sound signature. The different pads alone could change the sound.

I dunno, the K7XX has a 3db bass boost, I think you would like the Q701 or K702 better. Those fit what you're looking for better.

Yeah, I know how they are advertised.  Even the Q701 is thought of as having improved bass over the original K701.  I think the K712 is the bassiest of all the K7 series though, and has been scorned by some AKG fans as having "sacrificed" the open airiness of the earlier models to reach this bassier, more "balanced" sound.  I guess I'm looking for a compromise to experiment with and 1) Amazon just raised the price of the K702 to around $250 and 2) The Q701 still has the bumpy headband (the main reason I sold my K701!) it looks  like the K7XX might be a possible contender.

I believe the ear pads are similiar between the 3 of them. The FR looks very similiar too

They're a new viscoelastic material on the 7xx. Link me the comparison graph, please.

The Q 701, K 701, and 702 are all the same driver but with variations on an internal foam ring. The 702 anniversary has a different foam ring but also has memory foam pads, and the K 7xx is the same product. The 712 is a different derivative driver with memory foam pads.

So K712 uses a different driver than any of the others?  Is that correct?  I've heard it uses the same memory foam pads as the 65th but even in the chaotic sea that is headfi have been unable to determine if the K7XX has the same pads and/or foam rings.

Yes, the driver is different. Part-number-wise the K702 and Annie use (2400Z00080) and the K712 uses (2400Z00090). All I've heard about the 7XX so far is it's the same as the annie, so I have to assume the drivers are the same.

Also, AKG isn't very transparent about the changes they make - some have speculated that when they update the foam ring they make it universal, so silly things like that. They never made an announcement about either time they changed the headband bumps on the K 702.

Cool!  Thanks!

I know when I tried to inquire about replacement earpads it seems the consensus is that the K612 and the K712 *ship* with different ear pads although Harman/AKG lists the same part number as a replacement ($50 each!!!)  Who knows what's really going on behind the scenes in their design shop.  I'd love it if headphone.com would take measurements of the 612, 702 65th, and the 7XX to make their graphs complete.

300 more pairs of these have sold since I posted this, eight hours ago.  According to massdrop there should only be around 300 pair left.  Don't say I didn't warn ya.

Great pair of headphones. Comfy and sound great.

Sadly they're small, as most AKG headphones are. The headband presses my noggin a lot, probably Luke's too.

Look around your local forums. Sometimes there are people who provide the service of buying something that originally doesn't ship to that country. It's kinda like importing/forwarding service, but retail/per item.
