Dual cores for emulation

zappian

I wanted to do a video / review of my dual core cpu running emulators.

There is a misconception that dual core cpus cant run emulators decently and i wanted to debunk this.

If you guys are interested and i can find my damn camera cable i will do it.

Peace.

EDIT: If you think emulated games arent demanding look at this.

Cpu requirements for Shadow of the collussus:

CPU Requirements

The game's performance varies significantly depending on the CPU being used to run it. PCSX2 runs better on Intel CPU's than their AMD equivalents, and so does Shadow of the Colossus. However, AMD CPUs are more appropriately designed for gaming PC's and often represent good value for money when it comes to price vs performance in general.

Standards for Maximum Performance

To achieve 60 frames-per-second, your CPU must meet all of the following requirements and have the necessary speedhacks enabled.

  • The CPU must be an Intel-brand; not AMD
  • Due to architectural improvements, the CPU should utilize the latest Micro-architecture in the series
  • The Clock speed must be over 4.0 GHz (The only Intel CPU with a base clock this high is the i7-4790K. Most other CPUs will need an overclock).
  • VU Cycle Stealing should be set to level 1 or 2

Pcx2 demanding games .

Alright, I have never emulated PS2 so I wouldn't know (I have a dual core processor too).

I would be interested.

I don't really believe that a video on emulation would really be required. It is general knowledge that even a raspberry pi can emulate many consoles.

Not true , pcx2 games are very cpu heavy.

You have no idea , you need a overclocked i5 to achieve full speed in all games.

Or y'know you could actually buy the console, it's a much better experience.

Also you're wrong home-slice.

No i am not , I know a great deal about ps2 emulation.

My phenom II coudnlt run half the games for the system.

Surely thats better than a raspery pie.

Ps2 isnt a better experience because i can play games at 6x native resolution and double the FPS.

This is what happens when you run ps2 games on a average pc.

Actually PS2 is a better experience. Who cares about resoluton really, I collect old consoles and games and find playing them on an old tube tv to be more enjoyable than playing them at 4K 60Hz.

Its objectively superior higher resolution and framerates , your subjective taste is other thing.

two way street big guy.

What is objectivly higher 540x400 or 4k?

540x400 is around the ps2 original resolution.

Can you argue that a ferrari is better than a ford pinto?

Sure , is it faster ?

Hell no.

You might prefer fuzzy gfx but i dont.

For anybody that thinks the original console is better.

you're kind of proving his point with this video if it's running this in 4k and that i7 is barely doing more than idle.

If you configure it right even legacy BD chips don't have much of a difficult time with PS2 emulation.

Hell, I ran some bonkers high settings on a low clocked 8150 and it ran perfectly smooth. Turn things down a bit and it runs on some pretty old and weak hardware perfectly fine.

Error: 410

Thats the less demanding pcx2 game available.

Something like shadow of colossus brings high end cpus to their knees.

Whats your vote currently its 3/2 are you interested in a video of this kind or no?

PCSX2 only uses two cores, so an overclocked G3258 does just as well as an overclocked i5 or i7.

Not true , it uses three cores or more with MTVU.

Well crap, their specs page said it can only use two cores currently. It ran pretty badass on my 4.4 GHz Pentium when I had it in my system.

I should have made this a poll xD.

Would you be interested on a video like that or not.
