I have recently started to build a house! I just want to say this because all of my time is going to get into that house so you will be seeing less of me in the LTT forum! And yes i i'm building it from scratch and on my own with help from family and friends :) A few pictures till now done in 2 weeks time! So this is the non techie side me :)

If you have a place to install Geothermal heating and cooling, I'd recommend it 10/10. It cut my friends electric bill almost in half.

When you get to framing seriously consider this: http://www.swhowto.com/

It helps alot, if you plan it right local telcos. won't be drilling through your walls years from now. 

 

Also I assume that your power service is under ground? If so this is the time to start to contact the power company. They will draft up all plans and specs for you to give to the city. The reason this is important is because the conduit for underground power will end up in an exterior frame where your power panel will be. This usually requires that the electrical conduit runs through the foundation/slab. Here is a picture of what I mean: figure4A.gif

Also make sure to ground your electric panel with a grounding rod and electrically bond to Earth your water pipes if you are using copper or iron pipes.

That's awesome^^ Just make sure to keep good track of the invoices and estimates from the builders. Get all contracts in written form. (Never accept verbal contracts)
So you don't get scammed. 

 

It looks good so far :) I used to build foundations for houses but i haven't had the finances to build my own house yet.

I bet it'll be nice to move into your very own house and put your own mark on it before someone else does :)

It's not often i see someone build a new house with bricks either so that's a nice change of pace :)
