PowerColor RX 590 revealed

PowerColor has revealed their RX 590 after a series of leaks, reaffirming my belief that tech companies don't even care about hiding their new products anymore (I mean come on, how many leaks are even inaccurate these days).

Not on 7nm, which is a little disappointing, but the results are what's important.

Which leads me to asking what exactly is the "590?" Same amount of stream processors, same ram clocks, same memory bus, just an insanely thicc heat sink and faster clocks. What is the point?

 

Edit: I just remembered how AMD released a 580 2048 which was just an RX 570 with the 580 name, and they released a 580X and 570X for mobile only, so it just feels like they're overhyping their own products at this point

Technically it's more different to the 580 than the 580 to the 480 but it sucks yes

I had a feeling the 12nm bump would help more than just a 17% clock increase.

You only had to look at zen to zen+. 15-20% was what I expected.

 they seem to overclock a fair amount more too, it's gonna be polaris refined and slightly more power efficient but not really because the clocks are higher

IMO if they were going to give it more FPUs then it would have been the 600 series. Tbh thats what I would have done, add a block of CUs to each tier of cards and release a 600 series for the same cost as the original. Although this is what I would have done, it's not what I expected to happen.

Their 600 series will be on 7nm, same as Vega.

I am aware of the current roadmap... I wasn't saying that was what is going to happen, I said it's what I would have done...

you would not, because you would know that 1 amd doesn't have the money, 2 its a bad time to release a whole new card on 12nm considering 7nm being so close.

considering zen went from a max of 4 ghz to 4.3 which is just 7.5% (a bit higher on the low end(less cores used)), 17% is quite impressive

my expectations were more in the 10% range.

We also need to keep in mind that AMD almost assuredly only produced this to meet some Semi-Custom orders in their portfolio. Given how well the Embedded Radeon seems to be selling, I'm curious if AMD might respin both the 560 and the 550 on "12nm" to push the power draw down a bit in that segment.

I think it will eek into 1070 territory, because if it doesn't none of this makes any sense unless its to try to make some money off the research/tech/experimenting on 12nm since we aren't going to be sitting there for long.  I hate the GPU market. 

 

EDIT - I only say this because a 580 8gb is > 1060 6gb imho (slightly if not directly in line) already.
