Anyone else have the "not slow enough" problem?

emosun

... i exchanged my 4790k for the 8700k a few months back (good timing now the 9900k is coming.

It was not at all worth the upgrade. the 4790k is still a nice cpu, even my old 3570k i used before is okay if it is 1080 gaming.

CPU wise nothing really had happened, before Intel and AMD started the CORE race..

Speaking of Blu-ray, do you have a way to get it to work with VLC? Because at the moment my Blu-Ray player is a glorified DVD RW drive.

I don't know to much about VLC, however a quick search and I found a video & article about running Blu-Rays on VLC:

https://www.quora.com/How-do-you-play-Blu-ray-discs-with-VLC

Hope this helps!

Honestly My PC has yet to meet a task that it has not been able to ably handle. Though I have been skimping out on my game budget so I have yet to put it up against say Battlefront 2 (2017) or against GTA V.

I've played GTA V on i5 2320, 8GB RAM and a RX460 4GB. It ran with 40-50fps on High settings at 1080p. After I upgraded my CPU to an i7 2600s I get more like 55-60fps. So your PC should have no problem with GTA V.

Also my PC is about 6.5 years old and I have no intention of getting a newer one. Maybe I'll upgrade the RAM on this one to 16GB sometime in the future. And that's it.

Yep. I just can't justify 1200$ on a new PC. When Zen 2 hits the desktop I'm pretty likely to, but who knows. My FX 8320 is doing me just fine. Working on my game, some occasional Premiere, VM stuff, streaming every once in a while, it handles all of it pretty well honestly. But that's me, even though I'm a "PC enthusiast", I'm not that power hungry, I could easily survive on a q6600.

Only thing I'd really like to upgrade is my GPU, thinking of buying a used 900 series card, the 970 is back down to the low one hundreds and it's looking pretty tempting.

i7 2600k @ 5GHz 1.49v - EVGA GTX 1070 ACX 3.0 - 16GB DDR3 2000MHz Corsair Vengence

Asus p8z77-v lk - 480GB Samsung 870 EVO w/ W10 LTSC - 2x1TB HDD storage - 240GB SATA SSD w/ W7 - EVGA 650w 80+G G2

3x 1080p 60hz Viewsonic LCDs, 1 glorious Dell CRT running at anywhere from 60hz to 120hz

Model M w/ Soarer's adapter - Logitch g502 - Audio-Techinca M20X - Cambridge SoundWorks speakers w/ woofer

My demands for a system are too high for a Q6600, but I wouldn't mind having one...

I wonder too what specs you got to overcome new components lol and what do you consider "reasonable price range", if it's a Pentium and GT 1030 it could be slower than your current hardware, but yeah, I wonder what specs you got in your system

Honestly if it's more than 8-900 i don't feel it's worth it regardless of it's speed , like i said i like my upgrades to double each time. this time i wanted twice the cpu power which can be done without ddr4 which reduces the price a lot but still costs quite a bit. I would be way up in the e5 2690 range if I want to get close to doubling. I don't know why i'm including 3d mark I don't play games that much lol

Do you have USBC?

What about that special gigabit internet connection that's got the long metal plug instead of Ethernet?

Isn't that fiber? Or am I really wrong?

I thought that was their fiber connection that gets converted to 10Gb Ethernet

Still good enough for me. But Cinebench sure is outdated, that it doesn't even support Windows 10...

Kinda. But my issue is I want to replace my i7-5820k with a TR4 2950x but can't justify it because my 5820k still runs absolutely everything with no issues.

I'll be sticking with my 4700k for awhile. It's fast enough for me especially with my overclock and the only thing making me even remotely consider an upgrade is that I could have faster HandBrake transcodes.

Yep, for me my 3550 and 8G are fast enough for everything I do and the R9 380 still holds up well enough for me to enjoy the games I play.  I have yet to encounter a game/use where my system is inadequate to the point an upgrade is justifiable.

It's kinda similar for me as well.

My PC is over 5 years old by now (damn time does fly fast) and since I am not into triple A titles, it can still run easily everything I want it to very decently. Decently enough for me at least.

The only thing I went and did this year was upgrading from 760 2gb to 1060gb since the 760 couldn't do 144hz, only 120hz, which felt like wasting my monitor and also got 4k TV which I sometimes do use for light gaming, so the better graphics helped.

Even then this is a small upgrade since while the GPU boost is significant, I only went for the "same" gpu only 3 generations newer. I did not even go for higher end card like 1070ti but the 1060 6gb has been serving me very well so far, so whatever.
