It always just depends on what she's into, honestly.

Personally, I could tell when people weren't sure what to get me when I come across what one would call a "generic" gift for a woman... But yeah, just break it down into umbrellas. For example, if she's into tech, you really can't go wrong with a new cable for her smartphone or some other "essential" that won't break your bank. 

 

However, you said that she enjoys the company of cats! I would think anything like a piece of clothing or accessory with a feline theme. 

(Maybe try something small from Alex and Ani?)

 

Bottom line, though, it's as they say... It's the thought that counts!

Even just a favorite food or drink is memorable, especially if you could both get one and just savor the moment together as friends or what have you.
