AlTech

Asus is showing off their new VivoBook S14 and S15, the iPhone 5C of laptops.

With its colorful and playful attitude and cheap price points with decidley middling specs, is it any wonder that it reminds anybody of the iPhone 5C?

Quote

At its Computex press conference in Taipei, Asus announced its new VivoBook S14 and S15 notebooks with quad-core processors, minimal bezels and fun colors that are far more vivid than many other notebooks we see on the market. In the Untied States, the S15 is planned to launch for $699 this year.

The North American configuration will include a 1080p display, Intel Core i5-8250U processor, 8GB of RAM and a 256GB SSD. There’s no word on a US launch of the S14 just yet.

The new colors are firmament green (kind of a cyan), star grey (with a red stripe), silver blue (with a yellow stripe), icicle gold (with a white accent)  and gun metal (dark gray with a light gray keyboard deck).

Hopefully this won't flop as badly as the 5C did in 2013 :D.

GG Asus. It was nice knowing you :P.

No. Because those laptops doesn't have a colorful perforated case like the iPhone 5c. :P

Hope they can improve on things like build quality, display quality (at least entry level IPS, no TN), input devices, battery life etc. The previous models looked good but have mediocre overall quality.

And what is the gain compared to the older S15 510 series? Only ergolift hinge (which personally does not seem useful to me on the couch) and childish colors. The size of the laptop is the same in width/length/height. Furthermore, as far as specs are concerned, I do not see much new. Webcam is from VGA to HD. Weight with 1.8 kg is higher than the 1.7 of the previous generation. CPU/GPU/storage/RAM is the same.

Was looking into the last gen vivobooks but I am going to wait and see the pricing and such of those ones, they look quite better IMO and they come with the full size keyboard as well. In the case they are past the budget I have (The old Vivobook was in my budget), I'll just pick up one of the older ones out now when they go on sale.

This reminds of Dell's laptop several years ago with their colours

As a kid, it stuck to me but looking back the Inspiron lineup has at least in my opinion did fine. But the colours were pretty interesting for a bit.

It's not mentioned in this thread, that Asus Zenbook Pro with the digital touch pad. That idea isn't new, it's been out for almost 17 years, when Toshiba did it with their Satellite 5205 series. Back then it was just black/white with limited functionality, but it can still open programs, run calculator, calendar, etc. That 5205 series had tons of different skus, one even had this feature the keyboard can be removed and it becomes wireless.

This angled keyboard seems like a terrible idea. Subjectively, I'd say the lip at the back looks quite stupid, but more importantly, the users' wrists will likely bend upwards when typing, which is not ideal. Also, is the case made of metal this time or did they stick with the hybrid metal/plastic build?

Dell Refurbished my friend. You won't get the latest specs, but the quality is top notch and the prices are rock bottom.

If you cannot describe your device as "beautifully unapologetically plastic, dont call your product a iphone 5c "   /s

The iPhone 5C is a beauty! Plastic is a wonderful material and it’s a shame that most plastic electronics these days try too hard to look like fake metal with silver paint and brushed finishes. They just look fake. I mean just look at the Xiaomi Redmi S2. It looks terrible!

That case was a an absolute joke however. It was like $30 for a piece of silicone with holes.

I had the theory that apple intentionally made the case. They knew it was horrible.

But, there is a reason....

This is the 1st time we see rounded circle in an apple product.

Then the apple watch come out and the Ui was a bunch of circle.

That's my speculation anyway,.

But yeah on a more serious note, I do love the way iPhone 5 c feel when you are holding one on your hand.

It was one of the iPhone design I really like.
