Valve is buying development studios again, they now own Campo Santo.

Interesting news this one, Valve hasn't made any significant games since DOTA 2 but recently there's been rumours flying around that they want back into the game development business and now we have Campo Santo, an indie dev studio, saying they've been acquired by Valve.

From the day-to-day production of our last game, Firewatch, to the way we run the company, make merchandise, meet players at expos and shows, send out a quarterly literary journal, throw open-to-the-public game demos in the middle of an artificial forest—all of it is geared towards surprising, delighting, and entertaining the customers who have shared in our success.

 

In Valve we found a group of folks who, to their core, feel the same way about the work that they do (this, you may be surprised to learn, doesn’t happen every day). In us, they found a group with unique experience and valuable, diverse perspectives. It quickly became an obvious match.

This shouldn't affect Firewatch but does mean In The Valley Of The Gods will release as a Valve game when it's finished

Valve love buying up projects that are almost finished then having them release with Valves name on them. Once again they've done exactly that.

From what I remember, the head of the Campo Santo studio was very unsavoury and acted like a dick on several ocassions. Hopefully Valve makes sure that doesn't happen again.

Judge a product on its own merits AND the company that made it.

I want new Counter-Strike with FairFight+Easy Anti-Cheat+Valve Anti-Cheat+ValveNET+Denuvo+VMProtect, better graphics and new maps

Depending on how COD goes, valve could add a single player campaign to CS and make it that much better than COD.

CS GO is already better than cod anyways. Cod is for kids with no skill, csgo is only for pros

I also hate Denuvo, but since CS is an online-only game, it doesn't matter. Denuvo will add some Anti-Cheat protection.

I hope they will make some new game. I would love HL3, Portal 3 but somethig new would be probably a lot more better. Some new fresh gameplay with unique designs.

Aggressive DRM, not worth it.

Cheaters will get over it anyway, people that don't cheat but happen to run applications which Denuvo won't recognize will get punished for no reason.

The get a game released in their name that they didn't have to do a thing to help with.

Hehe, That's funny.

 

But seriously it may be somethong like what  @MyName13 said. There has to be a strategic reason. Maybe they see it as a good candidate for pursuing certain types of VR gameplay.

I don't even see the made DotA 2 as a new game, but just a mod made as a separate game as well as being heavily modified. Not like new IP but yeah.

I am less optimistic: They probably want to spend even less money on developing new exploitative games so I am calling it right now: Valve will try to release a Battle Royale game of sorts.

No protection is bulletproof you know. Denuvo actually does a good job in many titles. For example Assassin's Creed Origins (3 Months+ Uncracked), Just Cause 3 (1 Year) and many other games that took months to crack. I don't know what are you talking about

Pirated version of AC wasn't the full story. The game still had VMProtect and Denuvo inside the game files. It just found a way to get around it.
