4k 144Hz - Acer and ASUS G-Sync HDR Displays over $3k

Expected price. Multiple retailers listed them months ago (including Komplett) for that price. I was hoping it was a placeholder, but sadly not :(

I'd be happy to pay a decent amount of money for a monitor with those specs, but that's a bit steep.

  • 2 weeks later...

I currently own a PG279Q and it works well with my MSI 1080 Gaming X at 1440p.

Should I expect similar frame rates from this monitor at 1440p with my current card?

FPS? Lol nope. 10-40% less depending on the game at 4k

Great, now we have the first. I was really waiting for these. I won't buy them because of the price, but now the road is paved for more competition to lower it. Once they reach sub-500 I might pick one up.

The Titan V can't run SLI because it wasn't necessarily designed as a gaming card.

What if it’s set to 1440p? Would the HDR slow down the XPS? I wasn’t asking about 4K

Will dual 1080tis not do that on like any game?

Older games, sure.  But no modern AAA game will do 4K @ 144 fps with settings cranked to Ultra.  Even 1440p there's many heavier games where you simply can't get over 100 fps, let alone 4K which is about 2x the load.

Doubt it.  AMD cards are a VERY low % of the gaming marketplace right now and I don't feel like the type of buyer who buys an AMD card would drop huge $ on a monitor.

If it's set to 1440p, it's gonna have the same FPS as your current monitor. Your GPU is the limiting factor in how many frames are generated. Your Monitor is the limiting factor in how many of those frames can be displayed, and since theyre both 144hz+, you'll see the same FPS on both monitors at the same resolutions. So Unless you want to go to 4k, there's no reason to get this monitor.

Guess you'll need a titan v to drive this, but money is no issue so why not spend 3k on a monitor as well.

Isn't the purpose of G-Sync is that if you reach like a certain minimum number of frames it would still work at the desired refresh rate?

For example, for 60Hz/60FPS gaming, you'd need only a minimum of around 45FPS for it to work as if it were running at 60/60?

You can bark like a dog, but that won't make you a dog.

You can act like someone you're not, but that won't change who you are.

Finished Crysis without a discrete GPU,15 FPS average, and a lot of heart

How I plan my builds -

Spoiler

For me I start with the "There's no way I'm not gonna spend $1,000 on a system."

Followed by the "Wow I need to buy the OS for a $100!?"

Then "Let's start with the 'best budget GPU' and 'best budget CPU' that actually fits what I think is my budget."

Realizing my budget is a lot less, I work my way to "I think these new games will run on a cheap ass CPU."

Then end with "The new parts launching next year is probably gonna be better and faster for the same price so I'll just buy next year."

I’d be happy with 1440p HDR for games like Gears and GTA and I’d set it to 4K for Skyrim (should work with my card).

Though I’m just speculating. Don’t think I’m crazy enough to get this monitor in the next few months.

I dont speculate most people getting this monitor any time soon, not until the price drops a tad.

I’d probably get it if it were in the $1200-$1500 range. But such a price range in the US seems very unlikely at this point.

I’m guessing it’ll be in the $2,000 - $2,500 range when it’s officially released.
