Future motorcycle tech

It's pretty amazing what is coming with the blending of tech and transportation. We all know full well about Tesla and all the other electric and self driving cars but don't hear so much about the bikes in the press. I find the bikes in this vid to be pretty cool and I would love to take a spin on any one of them. Hopefully there will be some affordable versions that most of will be able to enjoy as they come into their own with the blending of tech..

I can't imagine lying flat on your chest would be a very comfortable position to ride in for long.

The only one that looked practical in that video was the Honda one.

 

If there's anything tech wise that should go on with motorcycles, it should be with the gear, not the motorcycle itself. Some creature comforts are fine (I'd really like cruise control because holding the throttle gets old after about an hour on an interstate), but if the gear is lacking, it doesn't matter how many whizz bang features the bike has.

That thing also looks like it'd be massively uncomfortable to try and control.

I prefer sitting upright on my bike, thank you! Wasn't able to watch the video yet but I agree with @M.Yurizaki , the most important part about riding is wearing the proper safety gear. It doesn't matter how much you put on a motorcycle, if you get hit by someone texting and driving, it comes down to your safety equipment and luck. (That you aren't going fast or hit a tree/pole etc...)

if any of you take the time to actually watch it instead of basing it on the generated thumbnail, of the least impressive one showcased, you would see the self-balancing, heads up display goggles/glasses and even a transformer that can go from street bike to quad.. Some very impressive tech being showcased on the four of them. Well worth the watch...

I’m all for electric engines and the reduced (most of the time) environmental impact but with motorcycles specifically I’d be worried about not having engine noise to warn cars

There is that.. Once we get more autonomous and we see more Tesla like vehicles dominating the roads that should slowly become a non issue. The self balancing bike they show first i can see becoming really popular regardless. Nice to pull up to a light and not have to put your foot down.. It was cool that it followed around behind her when she activated and walked away with it following her. I'd buy that bike today if i could afford it.

 

Needless to say, some of the stuff that will be coming out over the next few years should be pretty interesting..

I would never ride a self balancing motorcycle, just like I would never ride a 3 wheeled motorcycle or one that turns into a quad. IMO, dumb ideas.

If you rely on engine noise telling others where you are, you're doing it wrong.

I am still waiting on the company that makes that amazing off road motorcycle for the Marines to release that puppy to the public....100+ mpg and some fun torque and still manual (I drooled when I read about that bike).  O, and it can run on several fuel types.  So the ones in the video don't hold my interest at all.

You sound like someone who has never ridden at all.. Stick with Uber, they have self driving cars. you'll be safer...

Well, just find yourself a Kawasaki KLR650 and swap the engine for a diesel one

Been debating about that.  Though, I do love my current two motorcycles: S40 652CC single cyl and my 750CC Honda Shadow V-Twin.  Plan to shove a 665CC onto the S40 with an after market carburetor and muffler tip (should give that one some more oomph).

 

This kind of what I want to do with my thumper one.  Not the whole handle bar part, but I do like the tires and larger cylinder on it.

I defiantly agree there, you shouldn't rely on others to be on the look out for you, you also have to be pretty vigilant yourself. Also, there's other ways of making a presence on electric bikes; ie Harley Davidson's Project Livewire actually uses the gearbox and engine to create resonant frequencies that actually sound close a jet engine. It's pretty cool what modern engineering can do.
