I also got my power consumption for the folding month. My PC draws about 200W when folding, so for 30 days that's around 140kWh costing 31€. Some quick math and I get about 1€/Mppd. Single GPU setups aren't particularly efficient...

I'm not confused, you're confused.
Now, listen, I'm not trying to start a fight, I'm just sort of lost as to why it was ran the way it was.

Sort of disappointed that the Folding Month VI event wasn't a raffle, as that would make it more appealing and beneficial to the community as a whole.
Rather than just gave away prizes to the people who already have the most powerful hardware, why weren't they raffled?

Also, I didn't realize the effort I made in trying to stay at/around rank #69 all month would be a wasted effort. (I knew I couldn't breach top 50.) But I guess that's on me.

Lastly, finding the Award Ceremony Page was not as easy as it should have been, I finally found it after coming back to look for it for the third time this month.
Why was the expectation that we would dig through 109 pages of comments?
Why isn't there a better way to notify participants via an email or something, or even the site's direct messaging system for all participants?

"Minimum Participation Requirements For Prizes" seems to indicate that smaller contributors had some sort of a chance, but it doesn't seem like it?

Just seems very discouraging to smaller contributors.

(I was trying to fold 20 hours a day [off-peak hours, to save $] at full tilt, with my CPU and GPU ['Automatically'] lightly overclocked.)

Prizes are always raffled to all participants who meet the minimum requirements.

You at rank 69 have just as much of a chance at winning a prize as the person in first, 5th, or 300th.

On the event thread, the blog (where the awards ceremony was posted) is included in the OP of the event and the most recent blog post is pinned at the top of the thread. The awards ceremony was only posted a few days after the event, we do this to make sure we have time to organise event badges and prizes before it goes public.

As far as this goes, sending 300+ DMs is just not feasible, although I have higher limits on my account than most of you, I still can only send a DM every minute or two before it kicks off. That would be I would be spending anywhere from 6-10 hours just sending DMs, not something I'm willing to do and I'm sure no one would expect me to do so either.

Over the course of the event I sent over 700 DMs for a variety of reasons and even though that was spread out over 5 weeks it takes a toll on me.

So if not DMs, then how? Well if you followed the advice that is in the OP you would get notified of posts here, alternatively, you can follow the blog and get notifications (and even emails) when new blog posts go live. As far as me personally emailing, well I don't feel completely comfortable storing hundreds of email addresses and accompanying info, I'm not LMG and I don't have a clear data-handling/securty workflow and it would end up being a nightmare. It is something that I would like to have eventually when I have a more permanent team to run events.

so I guess, a shoutout to asking people to join with a more long-term commitment, I would love to build a website for more regular event updates and general folding stats, so if you have the skills for that reach out to me, I'm happy to credit you and will cover he hosting and related expenses myself.

Thank you for getting back quickly, I assumed you had access to forum tools. I thought the Sign Up Page / Link would be for the notification of the end, updates, winners, etc.

Glad to hear it was a raffle as I initially thought, but doesn't seem to be explicitly stated.
The winner post seemed to indicate it was rank 1 - 13 that won, maybe I'm just reading it wrong?

I usually avoid forums like the plague since they baffle me so, please pardon me if I came/come off as rude.

I was reading your post here:

from OCT* 1, thinking this was the end all be all of the information for the event, I didn't see any of the blog posts, and now I can't find where I stumbled across them.
Googles search results for the event kept bringing me here.

Edited by Lem.on.Lime
Said Dec not OCT. My bad.

At the top of that thread, there are two ways we advertise the blog, The "solution" for the thread is the most up-to-date blog post and a mod added a message before the first blog post even went up

As for it ending Dec 1st, well it is clear on the image and text of the post that the event ran for 5 weeks (I accidentally said Dec 6th, but it actually ended Dec 5th, a mistake on my part but it was corrected for)

Just seems very discouraging to smaller contributors.

(I was trying to fold 20 hours a day [off-peak hours, to save $] at full tilt, with my CPU and GPU ['Automatically'] lightly overclocked.)

I was only able to contribute very little and easily qualified. For the first few days I ran a 6th gen i5 and an MX250 and could have easily qualified using just that. It did not discourage me as a newer forum member and a small contributor (289 place).

The minimum requirements for badges and prizes are the same.

Yeah, any modern(the last 10 years or so) quadcore with a GTX 1060 or higher can easily meet the requirements

1 - Folding@Home won the event.

2 - I ‘won’ the event for the Total Point production and definitely qualified. Yet won no prizes. 🤷‍♂️

I didn't know this until today, but despite the low PPD of CPU-core work, it is necessary work! There seems to be no Folding projects that can compute on GPU what they can compute on CPU, there is no crossover, apparently. So, CPU work is efficient because it is not coded for GPU at all. Apparently.

yup, it's why i keep CPU folding 24x7 eventho the PPD i get is absolutely negligible compared to what the GPUs in my server are cranking out.

speaking of GPUs, i finally caved and bough 5 of these little monsters to fold in my NAS server in the datacenter:
image.png.7a76ba850ece468f84eca5bd44171df0.png

Not the most powerfull low-profile GPU by a long shot, but they don't require external power which is a must, and combined they should still pump out 5M PPD!

also, they are a steal at just under 75 bucks a pop. especially when compared with A2000's or even the T4 variant.
