Best amd cpu?

for gaming i would suggest a 1700, as price to performance is spot on with that chip.

i would get 1600. If my Random acess memory serves right there isnt a huge diff in gaming between r5 and r7. But hey my ram is 512mb only

also true, tough the extra cores might prove beneficial in the long run! but yeah 6 is plenty for today's games.

I would get a 1600X if you are purely gaming

remember extra money spent on a 1700 is money taken away from maybe a more OCable GPU or other parts

Actually 1600 would be better, there is really not much difference between the two , i think even the 1600 comes with the AMD cooler which is kinda cool

If you want unparalleled performance, I'd suggest an AMD EPYC CPU, you'd get at least 5 FPS in 4k no doubt.

Used to be everywhere in LTT forums, had a break which lasted apparently 1 year LOL.

Gonna get up againnnn.

Wake me up if I sleep again like Oppy.

instead of creating over ten threads on different components, you'd be best served to make one thread in new builds with budget, location and computer tasks needed and allow the forum to make the best build for the budget.

creating all these different 'whats the best' threads only confuses you and the community ceases to answer.

for gaming on a budget i'd go with a r5 1600 and wait for zen+, if it's only for gaming i would go with intel.

Threadripper 1950X is best for prosumers; for just high end power usage r7 1800; for gaming I'd say r5 1600.

Higher stock clock speed and higher turbo but no heatsink. The rest are the same.

1600x is better for gaming, but the difference is not that big.

For gaming a 1400 is enough, then you can focus on buying a good gpu.

Probably a 1600x. It is an affordable, binned CPU. These people suggesting threadripper are off their rockers, and hopefully just trolling. The 1600 while being similar to the 1600x is a little less binned. I've seen people getting 4.1 rarely even 4.2 on the 1600x. More reliably than any 1700-1700x-1800x. The 1600x is the sweet spot for gaming due to it being the highest binned 6 core cpu. Due to having 1 core in each CCX disabled it also puts out less heat than an R7. These higher clockspeeds will really give you the best RYZEN gaming experience. That being said the 2600x will be out in 6 weeks, and will probably clock to at least 4.2Ghz when overclocked properly rather than playing a lottery to get 4.2Ghz.

1600X, especially if you do not want to deal with overclocking.  It already runs at near max OC speeds out of the box if you count XFR.

1600 if you do not mind manual overclocking.

1600 statistically does not overclock as far as 1600x as well.  1600 lands at around 3.9 average while 1600X lands at around 4ghz average.

I see i'm not the only OCN member that left

Eh, Ive had accounts in both places for a while now.

The change in the layout hasn't pushed me here as much as simply not being on the bleeding edge currently.  I very rarely use any of OCN's threads outside of clubs and news, where here I tend to hang around to LARP as tech support. <_<

so 1600 or 1600x. what's the difference exactly between the 2.

Think of the 1600x as a pre overclocked 1600.

You dont have to fight with it, do any stability testing, or deal with OC related crashes to get most of its performance.  And if you ever do want to OC, it will generally OC further than the 1600.
