The denizens of internet horror-forum 4chan have come up with a hoax designed to trick Mac fans into deleting all the files on their machines by running commands supposedly needed to turn on hidden Bitcoin mining features.

Odds are though, the people using Macbooks who try that have nothing worth keeping anyways and deserve to have it deleted. Everyone else either knows what that command does or isn't interested in Mining.

I can be a cynical a**hole at times. I apologize if I cause any offence at those time. I also occasionally have issues communicating my point. Extreme introversion + Photographic memory + Some other things.

I think more to the point the number of mac users that mine, use 4chan and are stupid enough to fall for this is very low. essentially start at 7% and work down.

Grammar and spelling is not indicative of intelligence/knowledge.  Not having the same opinion does not always mean lack of understanding.

Depends how convincing it is. Not everyone knows 4chan, and not everyone who knows of 4chan knows what 4chan does. There will always be people who'll fall for it.

I'd say we should start requiring IQ tests for people to be able to use stuff like this. But then we simply wouldn't have anybody to laugh at.
