A Developer wants to sue Digital Foundry because their users called them out for terrible Xbox One X fidelity

AlTech

Devs acted unprofessionally on Twitter and now dare to do this even.

Game is not even 4k anyway also not some uber graphic and detailed look game too. The users calling them out for so called terrible fidelity it seems is driven mainly cause how it was portrayed initially being 1080 and not up to 4k yet it's like always in the middle or so but hatever. Doesn't matter much.

Sadly, I've seen this kind of thing before on small indie games.

The experience that I had prior was from a developer that I won't mention but may accidentally respond with by mistake. >_>

The company is small, only 3-4 people, it is dying as their previous endeavor did because they got lazy for multiple years without updates. They developers are so narcissistic and fed by the circle-jurking of their cesspool community that they actively target and harass people that speak negatively about the game until they either leave or the devs ban them because they have an opinion. I was actually banned from their entire community for voicing my opinions and concerns about the optimization of the game and the ethics of the company running it (which only served to prove my point). They've also threatened to sue members of the community that have spoken ill of their game as well as reviewers. I've been to some of the most toxic places on the internet, but that community takes the cake.

Point is that there is always someone going to be threatening someone else over what they said as "slander" or some other nonsense. The only real thing we can do is shed light on the companies that make a habit of it as they will ultimately be the ones to destroy their own reputation.

Jokes aside; I think it's just a thing saying "hey, you messed up".

Though I wonder how much people buy games because DF says its good on a platform. I'd assume it's in the 10s.

Didn't even know who they were till I read this post.

They're a subsidiary of Eurogamer who focuses on technical game analyses.

In terms of resolution yes.

And the devs were the one who mentioned 50% of 4K.

Uhm... what?

No. You misread the article. That's not why they are upset.

They are upset because DF said it runs at 1080p, when in fact it runs at 1080p part of the time, but uses dynamic scaling, so the resolution changes depending on the level of graphical intensity on the screen at any given moment. The devs claim that via dynamic scaling, it will run anywhere between 50% to 90% of 4K.

Also, 4K means horizontal resolution. "4K" in this context, really means 3840 from UHD (which comes from the resolution: 3840 x 2160. The equivalent figure from 1080p is 1920 (which comes from 1920 x 1080).

What is 1920 x 2?

3840

Furthermore, if we take 1080p, which refers to the vertical resolution. Now let's compare that to 4K, which in this context, still means UHD: 2160p.

What is 1080 x 2?

2160

So in the context, yes, 1080p is 50% the RESOLUTION (note: Resolution, NOT number of pixels) of 4K UHD.

1080p has 25% of the pixel count compared to 4K UHD.

1920 x 1080 = 2,073,600

3840 x 2160 = 8,294,400

8,294,400 / 4 = 2,073,600

But Pixel Count and Resolution are different things.

Do you understand now? Hopefully that clarifies things for you.

It's an understandable mistake to make though - the terminology is less than clear and devs often don't use the clearest terminology to begin with.
