The IEEE 802.3bs Ethernet Specification has arrived - Possible 400Gbps - Wow...

@RorzNZ But then keep in mind every once in a while apple's tech will fail too. (Remember fire-wire?)

Want to know which mobo to get?

Spoiler

Choose whatever you need. Any more, you're wasting your money. Any less, and you don't get the features you need.

Only you know what you need to do with your computer, so nobody's really qualified to answer this question except for you.

FireWire was great, but not widely adopted. It had a pretty wide use in cameras and some hard drives. More popular than you think ;). I get what you mean though, Apple certainly doesn’t get their way all the time - maybe we will see that with the new features of the razor phone - 120Hz iPhone?

There’s a big difference between having a solution and popularising it. Whether people like it or not Apple is always at the forefront for marketing these new technologies, even though it’s been out for a while. Although with Ethernet and Wifi etc it’s inevitable.

And a lot of things were already popular for non Mac users, as I said Apple users tend to not care about anything until they can use it then attribute every instance of it's use after that as Apple having set the trend.

Apple has created a few things that really were unique like the iPod and iPhone but as far as actually bringing new hardware technology itself to general usage not really, it's more often already being used by large groups of people.

I've been using 10Gb at home for more than 2 years as an example, so has many other people. 10Gb nics inbuilt in to gaming motherboards has been a thing for over a year. This is a common trend.

This is much like when you get a new car then you keep seeing other people with it you never noticed before, everyone already had the car you're only just now noticing it.

But what does that mean for the average PC gamer - if you had this connection, theoretically you would be able to download all of GTA V
(around 65GB) in UNDER 2 SECONDS.

Who cares about fast downloads, this means a much easier way of gaming through the network a'la Steam Link. And eGPUs that don't cost a fortune because they're using the standard thing.

We have a NEW and GLORIOUSER-ER-ER PSU Tier List Now. (dammit @LukeSavenije stop coming up with new ones)

You can check out the old one that gave joy to so many across the land here

Fiber and maybe direct attach but no way standard copper can handle this right now.

Even if this isn't coming to consumers soon, it may mean we'll get 20Gb/s+ in most high end mobos in the near future.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

How will this effect public health if at all, having more radiation everywhere :D
Looks fun though, faster wireless would be nice. It's just a little to slow but it's almost there

This has nothing to do with wireless standards. This is for wired Ethernet.

Wireless is 802.11, wired is 802.3

Thanks,
anything over 1gbs I have not experienced. It's like uping resolution, I don't think I want to or else I won't wanna go back. Although my VPN will be at like 100mbs which I even use for gaming, so I dunno if more speed would make me jump ship right away. Although where I live Fiber optics is not the easiest thing to obtain.

As for cloud computing and eGPU, I rather prefer a local machine and local account. Unless you are running the server.

Maybe not for your use, but 1Gbps speeds are bottlenecks for more serious content creators that work out of the home, localized gaming streaming (steam link or PS4/Pro to PSTV streaming), and those of us that use large media file formats.

Its expensive upgrading legacy equipment. This year we are upgrade a 25 mile radius of DSL to fiber and will cost upwards of 30 millions dollars. Also think how long thats going to take to pay off at $50/month for ~1000 customers which is about 50 years so part of a problem is incentive which is fine because they are a business too.

Isn't that why the isps get money from the state for? To increase infrastructure?

No, that's so they can raise your rates and say they "upgraded" the network while pocketing all that extra money.

For the most part yes. But a $30 million grant only covering 25 mile radius is nothing.

Going from DSL to fiber is one major upgrade. Raising rates however I dont agree with because DSL is over priced as shit already for most.
