For some reason I get random disconnects from my ethernet, the wifi works perfectly fine its just the etherenet. Ive checked the cable, replaced the cable, checked the wall adapter, replaced the wall adapter, tried using a diffrent wall socket, checking the router, turning the routrer on and off, checked the wall adapter at the router side, replaced the wall adpater at the router side, tried connecting to the router itself, updated the drivers, unistalled and reinstalled the drivers, checked that windows 10 hadnt had it set to "turn off to save power" or eco mode or what ever its called. It do

Hey ya'll been struggling for a while with this hoping anyone with knowledge on this can help. Disclaimer this my first time in 10 years connecting rj45s haha. So we moved into a house a couple months ago that already had ethernet lines run but weren't connected. I decided to connect them up today and figure out which goes to what room. There are 3 cable runs, on the basement end(where my router is) I connected all three to RJ45 plugs and I connected a keystone jack in my home office [insert image here]. The plan was to connect the jacks one after the other so i can identify and label them as

When i plug my pc to the ethernet the connection stops working on every device that was connected. It shows that it's connected but has the exclamation mark on the mobile phones. on my laptop (connected to the wifi, not ethernet) and the pc i just connected to the ethernet it shows that it's all good but when i click on Google or go to play any game that needs connection it says i don't have connection. I tired connecting the laptop to the ethernet instead of the pc to see if my pc is the problem and it was working well. For the pc i tried uninstalling the motherboard and installing another o

sorry for my lack of good speakings but i will try to be brief, i just finished building my first from the ground pc, with an i3 1100f an asus primeH410M-E mobo, 16gb ddr4 ram, 240lexar ssd and a gtx 1660oc (budget because brazil but quite effective) anyway i was transfering some files from my NAS and i noticed my transfer speeds were very slow <1mb/s while in my old setup it was 10mb/s or more, now all my speed tests are showing 10mb ethernet speeds, but in my old pc its showing 150mb/s, is like the ethernet port is limithing my bandwith and i cant seem to find how to fix it,

Hello, new PC here w/ MSI B450 Tomahawk Max mobo. I'm trying to connect to the ethernet. All using cat5e cable and they should be good (been switching between cables and they all give the same results). All drivers are up-to-date, I believe, I tried both the ones from Realtek website and the suggested ones on MSI website. There's no power saving or anything similar on. PSU is Seasonic 650W 80+gold. My internet plan is for 1000M. 1. When I connect directly from the wall to my PC, it simply does not connect, and the connection flickers on and off. It can recognize something

Hi! If I have a 100 mbps internet connection, how much data should I be able to download from, for example, Steam? I'm getting around 10 - 12 MB/s download, when my friend says he's paying for the same 100 mbps speed, but his download speed in Steam is between 50 - 60 MB/s.

I started having this problem around 4 or 3 days ago and I've tried everything that I've seen in other web pages and videos and nothing has helped. I'm connected to the internet through an ethernet cable and I can navigate on the internet normally but whenever I go to YouTube and I watch a video at 2160p a couple of minutes after I started watching the video, my computer is unable to connect to the internet. I just troubleshoot the problem and its fixed. it says "The default gateway is unavailable. Fixed." and the internet comeback and I can navigate normally until I watch a YouTube video.

So in my university dorms each room has a connection for wired internet access, but the issue is all across campus the school uses these weird connectors that I have never seen before, nor can I find anything about them online. They are not standard RJ45 connectors. The IT department simply tells us that the only place you can get cables for internet is the school store. And of course they sell the cables in the store that fit these for the great price of $42 for a 10ft cable which is absolutely ridiculous. I was hoping someone might be able to identify the port they use so maybe I could try a

Hi guys, so I was looking to set up a vpn for my XSX console via ethernet to my PC and have my PC connected to my router. My MOBO is a rog strix x470-f. It has only one ethernet. Can I use just that one ethernet port to achieve what I want with a splitter, or is there a device that will allow me to do so. Basically my router and xbox both connected to that one port!? Thanks in advance. *EDIT* I May of just thought of my own answer, if I'm not mistaken I could get a network adaptor card right? Then connect my PC to my router through that!?

I have an Xbox 360 what would be better power line adapter with Ethernet or just Xbox 360 WiFi. I am with Telstra on Fixed Wireless.

Hello, last year I got a prebuilt (don’t scream at me lmao) and it came with a wifi adapter installed. I have an ethernet cable plugged in so there isn’t really a use for it. However I have no idea how to uninstall it. Thank you! (Don’t mind the dust)

So I got a pc about 2 weeks ago and recently I went and got a new service provider for WiFi. It took a while for a technician to come in and set it up (since I was using another provider). Everything was working up until the part where I tried to connect the Ethernet cable to the PC and it did not work at all, it shows an orange light with yellow blips. I want to know what is the problem because on the modem it shows green and on my pc it just shows orange and yellow. PLEASE HELPPPPP!!!! p.s. I already tried to unplug then plug the Ethernet cable, delete the drive for my co

Hello, first time user of the LTT forums. So i bought a new laptop and when i started it up it was getting speeds much faster then my desktop. My new laptop got 100megabits a second, and my desktop was getting 20megabits a second. So i thought to myself why, both are using the same cable connected to the same modem. i looked up my motherboard specs on my desktop and it can handle up to 1,000 megabits a second. I looked at the cable and it can handle up to 250megabits a second. The limit should be the modem that is set to give 100megabits a second to the cable that goes to my desktop. So i

Hi there, please check the attached artful drawing of my apartment with my ethernet cable setup. Here's the situation: My main router is located in the living room (blue line), that is the only place I can hook it up to the tv cable, to connect to the internets. I want to place a second rounter in the bedroom and connect it to the main router via the ethernet outlet, which came pre-installed in my apparment. However, the red ethernet and the blue ethernet are not connected with each other. Pluging in the secondary router into the blue

So I bought used parts and built a pc from it. The pc was and still working fine. I was using an ethernet cable and I was connected to the internet. The next day I could no longer connect to the internet using the cable and I couldn't even find my network adapter under "network adapters" in device manager. it's gone. What I did before this problem happend: 1. Installed and activated Norton 2. Got a windows update. My motherboard doesn't support wifi so I have no internet at all in my pc. When I try to install drivers from another pc I get this message: "" The Realtek Network contr

I just ordered a Cat 7 Ethernet cable, I was under the impression this is better than the previous Cat6/a cables but I've watched explaining there's no real benefit and I've been told they damage easier. Is this the case? I plan to have the cable run under the floor, around 10m. The cable I've bought: https://www.amazon.co.uk/KabelDirekt-connectors-Ethernet-transfers-suitable-Black/dp/B0843WLW6S/ref=sr_1_3?dchild=1&keywords=kabeldirekt+ethernet+10m&qid=1606907989&sr=8-3

Any help is appreciated on this. I currently have a cat 5e cable that can only support up to 1000MBs, However my internet actually goes up to 1500MBs and I'm curious if I were to get a cat 6a, would I be able to use the 1.5Gbs? Or does my motherboard not support it. I cannot find anything online (also is the 5e and 6a have the same ports? like universal to connect to my router and or PC)

So about a month ago, I built my new PC. I used the Asus TUF Gaming x570 motherboard. When I first connected my PC to ethernet in my room's port and did a speed test, I got around 950mbps download and upload, as we have the gigabit plan. That was normal. However, about 2-3 weeks later, I did another speed test and the speeds suddenly dropped to about 150mbps download and 200mbps upload. I don't understand how this could be possible. I don't recall downloading anything that could affect the adapter in my motherboard. I am sure there isn't anything wrong with the cable, as I tried the

Hey guys, I know this isn't exactly a PC problem, but I'm having some trouble with a NAS I just set up; and I could really use some help. I'm new to working on networks, so please bear with me on this. After running out of storage space on my PC, I built a NAS to act as my own personal cloud server for my files. Setting up the unit was easy, but considering that it's gonna hold the bulk of my personal files and data, I wanted to set its security up properly before I headed back off to college without it. First, I tried to encrypt the connection by using Syn

While waiting for my 5900x to arrive, i decided to put 2600 into my new b550 tomahawk as i heard it works fine. I know its not offically supported (which may well be the issue) but the cpu works fine, its just i have no internet? Ive tried every solution i can fine, and nothing works. Ive installed thr chipset drives, the lan drivers, i even put my old wifi card in and installed those drivers. Nothing. The only thing that works is usb thethering from my phone, but nothing else. The only adapters that show up when i click show adapter options, is my bluetooth dongle, no

So I stumbled on LTT trying to research a solution for DisplayPort over Ethernet and was excited to see the spot on the whole home tech consolidation to the gigabit network and server build with virtualization. However, my desired solution is somewhat different, as the LTT team ran the fiber physically. I am renting and a new cable run is impractical, though not impossible. I had been designing running HDMI 4K over an AV matrix transmitter when I started looking into solutions for my Valve Index. What I want to do is setup the system to transmit to another couple

Hi everyone! First time builder here! I successfully downloaded windows, created and signed in, noticed I have no wifi network appearing. I have the MSI MPG Z490 GAMING CARBON WIFI motherboard. I have no ethernet in my room or anywhere feasible to connect my computer to, hence I bought a WIFI motherboard. The wifi antenna is in fact correctly installed to the prongs on the motherboard, so no issue there. I have not yet touched drivers of any kind or sort yet, wondering how I might go about this. I assume I need to install the motherboard's drivers, but I don't have a

Hello everyone. I have no ethernet in my room, nor anywhere feasible. I have the MSI MPG Z490 GAMING CARBON WIFI motherboard. I've already setup windows. I already have wifi working on my Mac laptop. I have a 8gb usb stick. TREAT ME LIKE AN IDIOT. I've never used windows or BIOS before. Here's what I've done so far: Turned on my mac laptop, downloaded the drivers for the motherboard via MSI website, onto my USB stick. NOW WHAT? I stick the USB into the windows computer I built, do I need to be in BIOS or windows on the desktop? Then what? And wh

I just upgraded my whole home network to have Gigabit ethernet speeds. We had two computers that both had 100 Mbps network adapters built in, so we needed an USB 3.0 to Ethernet adapter with Gigabit ethernet speeds to get them up to par with the rest of the home network. After installing everything and laying all the cables I started testing. I wrote a random file (some 4Gbyte movie file) to our NAS and only reached speeds that were consistently around 40 Mbytes/s (=320Mbits\s). I am used to seeing not the full 125 Mbytes being achieved but this was too far off with it also looking capped to
