Can I return my and brothers PC ?

Return it? No. The rig isn't malfunctioning, nor it has a fault, per se. The cause for return is not justified and they won't accept it, no normal retailer would.

The consumer market was hit with such performance drop that you won't notice it, if we're to believe trusted sources. Now, server stuff does get hit a lot harder. I updated my laptop and PC, no issues whatsoever. But as I see it, it is the normal windows update issue, I don't think it's this patch specific.

So after I found out about Intel Security issue is it possiable to return CPU and mobo cause my rig was  bought in December, 2017 and my brothers rig was bought in April, 2017.

Can I return the CPU and mobo and swap it for Ryzen 5 and Ryzen 7 ?

My PC Specs :
i7 7700k

ASUS Z170-K

24 gb of ram (2x 8 gb 2400 mhz and 2x 4 gb 2400 mhz)

GTX 970

My brother's PC Specs:

i5 6600k

Gigabyte Z270 Gaming K3

16 gb of ram (2x 8 gb 2400 mhz)

GTX 960

PC Specs : i7 7700k, 24 GB @ 2666 MHz, ASUS Strix GTX 970, ASUS Z170-K, 960 EVO 250 GB, 850 EVO 250 GB, 2x 2 TB WD Purple RAID 0, Green 1 TB

I don't think so but you could always sell it...

Or you could just patch it and be fine

For some reason, I highly doubt PC manufacturers are actually willing to purchase back these or arrange a switch to Ryzen for you. Patches are already being deployed for this security issue.

Waiting for whole thing to be fixed is not an option cause I do not wanna update cause we tried on our laptop and Windows got bricked completely and also I cannot suffer from performance loss in apps like CATIA, Solidworks, AutoCAD and Tensorflow. My brother cannot neither for apps like 3ds Max, Maya and Premiere Pro.

I cannot wait for patch beacuse I very sensitive and private data that I have use to every single day.

Not at all. All the return policies I've read from Taiwan, North America (not Europe though...) say CPU is final sale.

Some versions of Linux kernels (I can't tell by heart right now) have this implemented. W10 update has been released KB4056892, W7 and W8.1 also have patches, but these will be pushed via Windows Update next week. MacOS High Sierra has some of the patches implemented, remaining will come soon (currently in beta).

Probably not. How am I supposed to know? Go check with the store you bought it from. If they have a website, their return policy will probably be on there. If it's a local shop, the receipt will have it, or you can go ask them.

Well. If you really want to return and ordered through Amazon, contact their cs team. They'll probably process it if you're a prime member.

I think people are getting just a bit carried away. The flaw was discovered by security researchers. This isn't a currently practiced exploit and it's doubted that people even have the resources to carry out this exploit. It's effected all intel cpus since like '95 and never had a problem.

exactly what i am thinking ... this whole thing gets blown out of proportion. makes good headlines, after all.

this has existed for so long and not been abused yet.

but now, after all the noise about it, i bet some people will try to craft a weapon grade exploit around it.

Are you guys doing anything that this bug would affect?

if you don't know, then the answer is NO and you shouldn't worry about it. FYI, AMD is affected as well, just at a different level.

all politics, marketing and money.
Media outlets get publicity and monetary revenue due to increased traffic, I'm sure an AMD affiliate company started the hype about intel, then intel came back and said oh yeah well AMD is vulnerable to this exploit etc etc. Then they will start selling "Meltdown & spectre resistant hardware" and people will buy into it and make it another billion dollar market lol.

Practice safe usage on your computer, be mindful of what you visit, download, and run, and be fine. I haven't had any viruses or trouble in the last 10 years and going strong.

well, keep them up to date... buy some pretty stout security software, maybe invest in heavy grade firewall protection, lock down your systems...

Any reccomendation for security software, My EPYC server will arrive in 2-3 months and I cannot wait that long for firewall. Windows Update took a good shit on my laptop and good 5 hours to get data from it and reinstall it.

hey, i see it like this: even IF the patch would eat away some 20-30% of CPU performance i would still be "ok" IF i could get a 8700k for dirt cheap - even a 8700k with a 30% handicap will knock my current CPU right out of the park without breaking a sweat

Call them up, ask for a sales rep.

It sounds as if you are WAY behind the IT security ball and you need some heavy hitting hardware protection. I think you better hire a firm to handle your needs.

...that is unless you do this all as a hobby, at which point, why are we still talking...
