Apple does slow down your iPhone.....but its not what you think....

To be fair, Apple is very much against that though. It may be simple to replace, but they don't want others to do it, they want you to go to them only. One good thing, one bad thing, one good, one bad and so on.

So don't say Apple is bad for doing x when no Android Flagship does any different and take no measures to keep the phone usable when the batteries do degrade. 

A byproduct of slowing down the phones is people buying new phones.  I'm not defending Android flagships, I think they should make their phones serviceable.  They don't get a pass because I prefer their OS.

 

Yeah sure, they don't take any measure, I'll give you that, but I think that slowing down the phone makes it worse than it has to be.  If the phone starts immediately dying when the battery starts to go bad, people will replace them immediately.  The way Apple has gone about it makes it so that the user experience just gets shittier over time and consumers think that it's because the phone itself is slow and not that the battery is bad, and they'll buy a new iPhone.  At least if the phone is dying suddenly, you know it's the battery and you can replace it.

This measure prolongs the life and usefulness of the iPhone without having to bring it in to service of any kind.

Yeah, but a battery being bad isn't the first thing that comes to mind if your phone starts to slow down, so people don't realize that they need to replace the battery.  They just assume that the phone is getting slow because of its age, and they buy a new one eventually.

 

If the phone starts to die at like 30%, anyone would know it's the battery and they can get it replaced.

As compared to an android phone where their phones just die sooner and have to be serviced sooner? Causing the person to probably buy a whole new phone sooner?

My 6s Plus performs so well Apple is not making it easy for me to want to upgrade. Its still an amazing phone. 

maybe because the Plus have an extra gig of ram probably. I still like the phone but the frequent app reloading can be infuriating

..so they eventually buy a new phone instead of simply getting the battery replaced, because a slow ass phone is not usually a telltale sign of your battery being borked.

But this is a known thing, right?. If someone Google's the issue, they'll come across the fact that the battery is bad. To a certain extent it's their own fault if they just assume what the issue is without checking at all. 

 

Also, this doesn't seem to be a matter of it dying early. it's that it dies during certain tasks. If my phone was cutting out whether it was at 80% or 20% when I do a specific thing, i'd assume it's a software issue that's causing the phone to crash, or possibly the processor. Wouldn't think battery right away in either case.

If all you have to replace is the battery, then why would you get a new phone sooner?  If you know that its the battery and nothing else, all you do is replace the battery. 

 

Most people attribute a slow phone to an old phone that needs replacing, and not to the real issue, which is the battery.  This way would cause them to buy a new phone sooner.

It's not really a known thing that Apple slows the phone down because of deteriorating batteries. That's why an article was just written about it, because it is news.

Well, yes, I'd argue that they could know.  Your average person would attribute bad BATTERY life to a bad BATTERY.  Your average Joe would make that connection, even if it was incorrect for his/her situation.

Not always.  Some people, yes, but most would send it somewhere to get checked out.
