what does that have to do with this? legal issues of breach of contracts do not need tangible damages.  also apple can argue the video could effect sales.

Depends what your definition of "tangible" is. If you're talking about projects underway, yes.

If all there is is breech of contract with no business impact, then firing someone over it is weak.

Send him to code of conduct training

So leaking it 1 day before release is okay, but a six months before isn't. So at what point does it become okay to leak something? All major companies (US or not) have a strict NDA policy.

The NDA probably outline recourse if breached, being fired could of been the light punishment.

Isn't worth firing someone over imo, its just a phone and the video sucks anyway

Maybe he shouldn't have allowed his daughter to leak confidential information all over the internet. It's not Apple's fault that he fucked up.

Yes, it is just a phone. Though that phone has a possibility of generating over $1billion. It was more than just the phone being recorded though. He broke a line of trust by breaking an agreement by allowing his daughter to record sensitive information. If I talk about current projects that I have at work, I will lose my job and any chance at working at similar employers or any other companies that I may have broken contracts in the process as well . I am not even allowed to talk about what clientele we have. I can mention companies we partner with and work with, but any information we have from those companies are under heavy contracts (we are talking books worth).

The biggest issue comes down to trust.

Just food for though from someone that is on that side of the pond.

Yeah, I get it.  I deal with the public being hit by trains.  Appropriate disclosure isn't a new concept.

Think of it this way, youtuber breaks nda, gets stern warning, maybe.

This dude breaks nda in a similar way, everyone encourages Apple to make it so he never works again?

"Well he broke the rules"  o no

Most companies have a zero tolerance policy on information that is key to their business. Which in apples case it would be.

We we don't fully know what his aggrement to disclosure was and stipulations on that information. It's almost guarunteed that he signed a employment contract that went over all of that and not just a simple "don't break the rules".  Like I said, for me, if I did similar I would be gone. Every company I have come into contact with has similar policies and make them fully aware of those policies.

im not sure if i entirely blame her if her dad didnt tell her not to film and stuff. to us who are familiar with NDAs and this kind of stuff its a no brainer but to someone who has no clue it might not be intuitive

Being fired and dealing with a big lawsuit would not be fun even for (formerly) highly paid engineers, as said lawsuit would probably wipe out that rainy day nest egg.

Uhm... that's not how contracts work. If you don't respect the contract you signed, you lose all rights it used to grant you. Depending on how bad the screw up is the company may be lenient, but breaking an NDA is one of the more serious offences.

Don't ask to ask, just ask... please 🤨

She's old enough to know what a secret is, there is literally no excuse for what she did. While i didn't see the video based on everything read she's an idiot. If someone told me not to disclose or that this product is not out yet, or ffs that i know they worked in the sector where designing new stuff was a thing i wouldn't dare announce that onto youtube.

Besides who wants to work at apple for life, maybe he'll get a better job, AWAY from her. Tho imo the parents failed at being parents esp if a 20+ year old can make you lose your job.

This is her father's schadenfreude

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3RZSiAp2aew

Seriously tho, Apple permitted this person this camera in their place? (1:16) Esp knowing he would of had a X?
