Stay on Android or Switch to iOS?

I'd go with a cheaper android phone like a xiaomi personally, I am about to receive a redmi 4 note Spec

And for the price it has decent spec I think. What are your main usages for the phone? work that out and then you can look for a phone that meets those needs. The Xiaomi phone I am getting only costs approx $130 or so, depending on the actual model you get, the one I am getting above is the global version with 32GB ROM and 8 core snapdragon at upto 2GHhz. And is either dual sim or you can use 1 sim and a microSD, and you can swap them out when needed if you like.

You have a choice with Android about the spec you get, regarding CPU/RAM etc, whereas the iphone only has a few models and the spec isn't much different between them IIRC apart from things like memory size.

If that's what you want/need though then that's fine... as I said work out what you do with the phone and then see if an iphone meets those needs or not, and whether you get more for your money with android and it has the specs that you need.

Please quote my post, or put @paddy-stone if you want me to respond to you.

3 of my biggest reasons o stay with Android is their navigation system (back button, home button, and recent apps button all at the bottom with the option to customize their layout), headphone jack, and the fact that I can put my apps where I want them and not just having to fill them from top to bottom with only the option to put them on folders or on a new page.

I would recommend looking into the LG V30, it has a really nice screen with small bessels, nice cameras and features, and an integrated DAC I think (I know it has some kind of enhanced headphone jack). But the S8/S8 plus/ Note 8 are great options too, and of course the pixel 2 once it comes out (most likely).

Yeah im gonna consider the V30 if the pixel 2 ends up being disappointing for me

Please don't. Facetime? Hangouts

iMessage? Every phone has a messaging service.

Camera? Both sides have cameras that are on par.

Does ios have customization? No

Do they slow down their old phones to make you buy new ones? Yes

Hangouts is a joke compared to both iMessage and FaceTime.

"every phone has a messaging service" Yeah that nobody uses and has no unique features

fair enough

Yes it does to a point. That point being app location, wallpapers, how buttons look, etc.

Yes iOS does have a file system. The Files App and iCloud Drive not to mention every app can share between other apps.

"Do they have innovation" Ahahaha So much Apple has done to better phones is erased with that statement

No they don't slow down their phones. If they did you would not be able to buy the iPhone SE, 6s, or 7 with the 8 and X being out.

No, I mean if you got a brand new iPhone and never updated, some of the optimization features wouldn't be there, would they? (Sorry if I'm wrong)

Also, the whole point of Apple is to be for (don't take this as an insult) childproof. For the less tech-savvy people. They should still get these things without having to jailbreak.

i agree with apple being childproof

what do you mean by optimization? afaik, latest phone on their latest version of iOS that is still native to their number (so, iphone 7 on 10.3.3, iphone 6s on 9.3.5, iphone 6 on 8.4.1, etc) is still the fastest (animations don't count.)

they do slow down after a major OS update, pretty sure even the 6s slowed down slightly by 10.

No file system...

every device has a file system, and come ios 11, there's an app called "Files"

Do they have innovation? How no if they are the butt of all jokes for innovation? What the fuck

Do they slow down their old phones... No they don't. They release new software that's more demanding on the hardware, so the phone slows down a tiny bit. It's like anything...

IOS's customization is definitely not great, but you got that right.

There always should have been a file system. Also, knowing Apple it won't be a full file system. It will be some washed down version.

What qualifies as a full file system?

Do you seriously want people to be able to modify let alone view key OS files for a smartphone?

Downloaded something? Save it to Files. Want to share something? Load it from files. Want to rename a file? Use Files. Want to send a file? Airdrop it/use a bluetooth sharing app for it or any app you have on your phone via the share menu.

What else do you need?

My daily phone was an iphone 4 up until 16 months ago.

It ran IOS 6 great. never slowed down. Got my 5s, came with ios 9 i think, iphone 6s came out, no slow downs, iphone 7 came out, no slow downs. iphone 8/x coming out, NO SLOW DOWNS...

iOS vs Android is a very subjective topic. I like iOS better. Some may like Android better. Honestly, there's no point in arguing.

If you do not have the words to state your opinion and argue for your point or at the very least someone to interpret it for you, then frankly you don't have an opinion. Or at least one that can be articulated.

Well duh. The iphone 4 had a single core cpu. ios 7 was very demanding on it. Right now if you updated an s3 to the latest android version, it would probably be unusable.

If you do switch to an iPhone, do not use a lot of data right away if you don't have unlimited data. This is less of a problem now since more people are aware, but when Apple added WiFi Assist in iOS 9, we'd get so many pissed off customers who went over their data while using WiFi.

Settings > Cellular > WiFi Assist
