I cant believe 24 fps is actually playable!

My GPU died so I decided to play on IGPU. I was getting 51 average fps on Arkham City at 720p low but got some stuttering to low-high 20s... I decided to cap the fps to 24 just to see if the 'cinematic feel' will still stutter... It didnt stutter anymore but Im suprised its actually playable, especially when motion blur is ON. At first I was feeling dizzy playing at 24fps but after 3-5 minutes, my brain already adjusted and more than happy enough to play it at a Cinematic Level!

it's less to do with the ideal frame rate, and more dependant on the consistance of the frames. as long as it sticks at 24 it's good, but if you spikes between 24 and 60 then the difference is jarring

Well, that is actually understandable why. I'm not eye doctor but i've heard that a human can't really sense over 24fps. Second reason why it is playable is because it doesn't have to push out so much power from GPU/IGPU. So it will have far less drops and will feel more smoother.

You are definitely less sensitive to motion blur than me.

 

May I ask why you are capping your frame rate, if you averaged at 51 FPS?

I played geometry dash on my iPhone 4 at 30FPS or so.. Yeah. It's doable, but it's annoying and you get that feeling like you're missing something

The film industry in the early to mid 1900's concluded that 24 frames per second was the number at which people no longer found a movie to be unpleasantly choppy.  

 

People can tell the difference over 24 fps, but perhaps not as consciously.

The minimum accepted frame rate for smooth motion is 24 FPS, not that the human eye cannot sense more than 24 FPS. Ehh, I consider 24 fps to be an absolute minimum for smooth motion. Minimum, not ideal, or even good. For gaming, even 24 for may not be sufficient for reasonably smooth motion without complex motion blurring being employed (which only really became possible as recently as last gen).

 

Sudden spikes and dips in framerate are quite likely to break immersion as well.

30fps is generally done when it concerns television. Hell, some animations are done at 60fps and there's a number of shows that are filmed at that (a lot of soap operas and older mid-1980s to late-1990s shows like Married... with Children and The Fresh Prince of Bel Air) and most news outlets go for 60fps (be it interlaced/fields like CNN, 1080i60 or progressive scan/frames like Fox News, 720p60) and there's a number of shows filmed at 24fps (The Walking Dead comes to mind, something from the 1990s like Seinfeld also comes to mind). There's no real rhyme to it, but yeah, generally you see 24fps, 30fps and 60fps being used in television.

That's why I don't mind playing Ratchet or The Crew on my PS4. Even when I could play crew on PC since I got it free, I bought it on my ps4 to play with a friend. We played the whole game through together, but I never found the 30 fps to be that bad, especially if not close to the TV.
