Alexa to become friends with Cortana

So I guess our virtual assistants will be getting friendlier with each other, at least where Amazon and Microsoft are concerned as they plan to have Alexa be able to talk with Cortana and vice-versa.  The basic idea is that each of these assistants have areas where they excel at and you can access one of the assistants through the other one. This is planned to roll out by the end of the year so something to look forward to?

The integration will, at least initially, be a little clunky, as you'll have to ask one voice assistant to start up the other before you can use it. Long term, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos says that he hopes this won't be necessary and that each device's primary assistant will be able to defer tasks to the secondary assistant as appropriate. The collaboration was Bezos' idea. He approached Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella in May last year to suggest bringing the two voice agents together, and Nadella agreed.

 

Both men were concerned that if their digital agents didn't cooperate in this manner, then their usage would be reduced. The thought was, it's better to offer access to as many digital assistants as possible so that customers can take advantage of the relative strengths of each offering.

 

Bezos said he hasn't approached Apple or Google to ask if they want to integrate, but he'd welcome such interoperability. Nadella similarly said that he hoped the two companies would be inspired by Amazon and Microsoft's partnership.

I do like the idea of these assistants integrating together to make a better integrated home experience although I just hope that Alexa won't get jealous at me if I ask to talk with Cortana instead of her :/...  (I'm sorry Alexa, you truly are the only one for me. Siri and Cortana mean nothing. Don't place that order as revenge...)

Make them not stupid then I will use them. It really breaks the whole my PC is a person when you have to repeat yourself 9000 times and it is always messing up

If you have an android phone, then yeah you just download the android auto app and for me I plug my phone into the USB port in the center console. You just need bluetooth on and it connects to your car. Sync runs in the background but android auto opens as an "app" in your car like Sirius radio or Spotify. You can then use google maps and when you use voice commands (they work better than sync 3) it goes through google assistant. You really just gotta give it a try sometime. Easier to text people since you can do voice to text while driving etc...

That last part is really what I personally found Sync 3 to be lacking. It's also good that you can use google maps and have it display on the screen since my Sync 3 didnt come with Nav.

They can be friends somewhere else as far as I'm concerned. I will never trust an always on recording device unless it's FOSS and I know for sure that data is not being farmed.

Personally, I'll never trust any of them, open source or not.  I wish I could completely disable the Google one on my cell phone.  I already killed Cortana (or at least mutilated her, then stuffed her in a box in the corner) on my computer, despite not even having a webcam or mic.
