someone is saying an i5 bottlenecks a gtx 1060

so im having a debate with this person and is saying that the i5 7500 will bottleneck a gtx 1060 i dont believe that at all because my fx 6300 barely if not doesn't bottleneck my 1060 so i just thought id come on and hear your opinions on it

The i5 will not bottleneck a GTX 1060. It will bottleneck a 1080 or 1080Ti but not a 1060.

exactly thats what i thought i looked at benchmarks and the i5 performed alot better than the fx 6300 in gaming

Not in a realistic gaming load at 1080p, dont really see how it would there (I'm sure if you turned all settings to low at 720p it might).

  1. An i5 doesn't bottleneck a 1060 (It does bottleneck a 1070 or better GPU in CPU intensive games)
  2. The FX 6300 doesn't "barely" bottleneck your 1060:

is there really that much of a bottleneck my friend has the same gpu as me with an i5 6400  and only gets 10 fps more than me on gta 5

Are you using the exact same settings in GTA V? Because if you aren't this isn't really a fair comparison. And if you try a game like BF1, the i5 will be quite a bit better than the FX.

The i5 will be bottleneck in pretty hard on gta5, it's a slow 4 core playing a cpu intensive game.

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

AA and shadow AA? And advanced graphics? If your friend's i5 gets only 10FPS more than the FX with the EXACT same settings, he should check his PC because he should be getting way more FPS.

Depending on the game, you can make the limits of an i5 processor apparent with even a RX 480 if you wish. The biggest problem with them is that despite its high IPC and clockspeed, you're ultimately left with only four cores and four threads in the end. And when modern titles push them hard enough, your 0.1% and 1% minimums go down and your overall frametime consistency begins to suffer:

Not to say that i5s are bad CPUs by any means since they're actually still rather good but they're not quite as invincible as we once thought we were. And with the existence of AMD's Ryzen 5 processors, it's hard to see why people would still buy them today.

'Fanboyism is stupid' - someone on this forum.

Be nice to each other boys and girls. And don't cheap out on a power supply.

Why?

If they are using 60Hz monitors, and OP is getting 50 FPS (perfectly possible with an FX), then his friend will get max 10FPS more unless they don't  use vsync or anything like that.

Let's not forget that outside the lab, for the average gamer, overkill is much more common they "bottleneck"...

I assumed that they they weren't using V-Sync, I mean, if you're trying to find a bottleneck, you probably have V-Sync disabled

Well, if the goal is to find a bottleneck, as in "I need a reason to say bottleneck", then yes :P

If you just want to game and enjoy it, I'll assume it's on.
