When will the GPU mining craze end

Soon

Probably around August to November is my best guess.

Just now, RuLeZ said:

Value has halved at the same time difficulty has doubled. ETH is pretty much crippled by the huge influx of novice miners. So expect some cards shortly.

I saw this the other day in here and it is hilarious:

Spoiler

mining.jpg

Frankly Mining as it is right now I really think is going to be short lived, making virtual money that may or not value something by wasting computing power on pointless complex math calculations is not really a senseful thing to do.

Too much energy, hardware and so on being wasted on something that makes no sense but make a couple of bucks so I really think that something will have to change sooner or later on the bigger picture.

Until it happens though mining should survive due to the fact when a coin gets unworthy a newer one is rising so they recycle each other... Gotta wait for the upcoming new graphics cards options and future mining exclusive cards to re-balance the market.

  • 2 weeks later...

Some people are already in panic mode. Found one guy on eBay who is trying to sell 25 RX480 just two-month-old. He also has picks of his mining rig there. xD That was just lolz as he cites for the reason to sell his equipment: "Need money, thats why you get a great price". Yeah sure buddy xD

Can't post links as it is certainly not allowed, so sorry.

There are also a ton of other RX480s on eBay but not many 580s

When will the craze be over? Who knows, there are plenty of other coins that make a profit right now besides Ethereum.  Now as @Princess Cadence mentioned, the market will probably take some time to even out.  The biggest worry you should have right now is if the mining cards aren't an incentive enough for miners to buy.  If their price point ins't low enough, miners will just keep buying gaming cards to keep a high resell value if they ever decide to sell.

It's crazy how the community accepts anything technology related.. until it doesn't serve them directly.

I hated miners too, but keep an open mind and quit complaining about a supply that doesn't meet a demand. The value in different cryptocurrencies is not 100% speculation. It's not going to go away. There is a reason public blockchains and the decentralized nature of the technology is valuable. It is the future.

Here is a nice article about the potential of Ethereum: https://medium.com/@rtylersmith/public-and-private-blockchains-enemies-or-allies-45f050c38fc0

Here is a sort-able list of basically all the cryptocurrencies out there: https://coinmarketcap.com/

It's here to stay. Get used to it. Learn something about it instead of hating technology.

@DutchTexan Fine then if miners are here to stay it just means I would encourage nobody to ever buy used GPUs. Since the mIners wanna hog every GPU for themselves and it means sicne I don't just have 500 to 800 dollars to burn for a mid ranged GPu don't ask me to feel sorry for them when things get hard on them. Refrence the guy on ebay "needing money." I'd say no we should let you deal with the consquances of your investment. You chose to buy 25 GPUs for a Risky endever [average risk I;ve seen on Etherium and Bit coin hovers between 50 and 65% much higher than precious metals.] in a get rich quick scheme. Thats your problom not my job to bail you out. Maybe research your market your entering first and don't buy pallets of GPUs all at once?

Maybe you should chill out with the hatred. You cannot tell people how to spend their money. You also should not wish bad fortune on others.

Don't come at me like I ruined your life. I run my two cards when I don't game. You're spewing hate toward technology and an entire group of people because you can't get what you want.

I payed $680 for my 1080 ftw 10 months ago, way before everything you are complaining about.

You saw that I paid $680 10 months ago, because I wanted to game in 1440p, right? You talk to me as if I am personally responsible for you being upset. You can get a 1080 now for $550?! What are you ranting about? You look at someones ad on ebay and somehow they are forcing you to bail them out.

I'm just throwing some logic at your emotions... keep ranting

@DutchTexan   No I want a 1060 6gig version that costs up tp 700 bucks. No you just assumed and tried to act smart. My cpu won't handle a 1080. I did not say you personally are but miners are the source of my problom.I don't really care what you bought your damn 1080 for it is irralvent.  Try to buy a 480 at a price below 400 bucks.

@DutchTexan What I would say to you overall is this, it's fien if you want to mine or anybody else does. But It does mean I don't wanna hear sob stories when some lose money on it then wonder why I won't buy Used GPUs. Remember not all of us can buy 1080tis not all of us have THAT kind of money to spend.

Just like the last bubble, the prices will come down and used cards will most likely flood the gray market.  Usually by that time, the new cards will be around the corner.  Best thing to do is be patience.

Myself, I watch the mining threads and see what cards are being talked about.  Usually the miners (especially the vets) will talk about the best cards to get especially if certain cards are hard to get.  That the major reason I grabbed some GPUs way ahead of time before they where hard to find, so I could expand my F@H/BOINC rig before the prices shot up on the cards.
