I'm so freaking excited a 24 core processor for $799 it's just two hundred bucks more than what I paid for my 1800 EX I might sell my 18 hundreds just to be able to buy that well then I would have to buy something motherboard dang it

It's cool and all, but would you be able to properly utilize all those threads even? At some point it may be overkill, cool to have, but overkill for day to day use.

I understand that, but I was more or less considering the "average" pc user. Even most people on these forums might claim to use a lot of video editing/rendering software but let's be real here. Most people want to get into the youtube business and will likely give up after a month or so lol.

 

I love the fact that the pricing is way better than Intels, I love all the threads, but I do not agree with a lot of people who think they need this in their pc build just because they "think" they can make use of all the cores/threads xD

 

But it's their money, not mine, I think it's just better invested elsewhere.

 Yes I agree that it is overkill my 1800 x like almost doesn't have a ceiling in it I haven't found it yet anyways but it's Overkill that's affordable I mean that's awesome to me

Now devs need to step up to the plate and make games scale from 4 cores to infinite cores. Gaining performance on each core added instead of the mess it is now

Also the boards might be like $500 when they first come out but it'll be like every other socket they'll have a cheap board for the threadripper like $130 gaming board

it depends who your talking to, as there will be many people on this forum who can't use that power who think they can't, but there will also be a lot of people who can, and will, or people who will get it for other reasons so it depends, for example, I can use 8 cores of CPU power, but can't use 12, but at the time I might get the 12 core (or if a 10 core variant becomes available that one) just so I can get quad channel memory, not because I desperately need more than 4 sticks of RAM at the moment, but because I know in the future I will want more than 4 for when I upgrade to more RAM. That and also the extra four threads canny hurt

I built my brother a ryzen 5 1400 computer and compared to my ryzen 7 1800x as far as like daily performance you can't tell a difference

For day to day it is overkill.  Few uses for high core count is rendering, BOINC, and VM (few off the top of my head).

Though, be interesting if all those cores can keep up to 4GHz on full load.  The price currently a turn off for me, especially if the mobos wind up being expensive.  Maybe later I nab one if the features on some of the boards are worth it.
