Why Does Text In Spoiler Tags Count Against The Signature Line Limit?

Simple Question.

I want to restructure my signature, but it's already at 29 lines. How is it this long? because my laptop specs, which are in a spoiler tag (since nobody really cares) counts against my 30 line limit.

I don't know if this is intentional, but I'd like to think that one of the reasons people put a spoiler tag in their signatures is to hide info that very little people want to see, so if it doesn't bother people, why make it count against the line cap?

Maybe to discourage extremely long signatures with a billion spoiler tags, a spoiler tag can count as 3 lines, or 5, or something, regardless of the content inside the tag.

Yee I fucked up the title.

Edited it now, but it doesn't update on the sidebar. :(

For those curious, it used to say:

Imo its counted wrong all together. It counts lines as if line wouldn't be wrapped. Yours is 30+ if it would be counted as wrapped.

Yeah, but I don't care about that part.

I just want to fit more info in my sig, not less.

Use the "about me" page instead.

Few people read signatures anymore...

Maybe only the stuff above the "show more" line.

I read @Energycore's signature cause he puts my pcpp list at the very bottom of it.

Probably not, you read it once and that's it, you know what's there.

Pretty often, I'd say every 2 day just to admire the time and effort I put in that PCPP list. I sometime use it as a baseline for my pcpp suggestions.

That's actually a really nice parametric list.

Obviously can't be changed now, since it's a permalink, but if it included Ryzen CPUs that would be great, since they're really competitive with i5s the 1400 is definitely better than the 7400

Also, RX 480s can sometimes be cheaper than 580s for, essentially, the same chip. so maybe check both boxes on the parametric filter for GPU.

@deXxterlab97 @Enderman @LoGiCalDrm

See, I just changed my signature to include a spoiler tag for my system build. it looks short (15ish lines), but LTT says it's 27 lines. Cutting it pretty close because of the spoiler tags containing lots of lines.

The problem is, it's hard to pick R5 1400 or R5 1600 since pcpp always choose 1400 since it's cheaper

It still can be edited btw

My guess is that the limit isn't about what it looks like initially, it's about the limit at all times, like that is the max number it can display at any given time. So when you open the spoiler, it can be seen. Personally I think long sigs are terrible because they are pointless. No one reads them. People actually read short ones.

When was it a 30 line limit?

Back in the day it was 3 :o

It was increased when forum updated year ago. Now its 3 lines before Show More line and 27 more after that. And I think hard limit is there to prevent site sucking too much data by loading users sigs. Or completely breaking UI design.

The limit didn't exist at all for a period, but we had problems with people creating excessively large signatures that caused all sorts of other problems, so a limit was required. If 30 lines isn't enough for your signature, you should probably consider moving content to your profile instead - people are unlikely to read your whole signature anyway.

Couldn't you have more space by making better use of what you have?

Eg including all your peripherals on a single line horizontally instead of listing it vertically.

Wouldn't that give you more lines?
I've never messed around with my sig so I have no idea how it works.

yeah

it's not a problem of fitting all the info in to my sig, but a formatting problem.

for my specs, I like every component to be on a different line for easier readability. however, this obviously takes up a lot of lines.

ideally, I'd like to be able to put my laptop's specs on separate lines, but I can't due to the line limit

not a big deal obviously.
