Is the AMD FX-8320 still worth it?

Just wondering if the AMD FX-8320 still good for gaming.

Any ideas for a better or somthing that would match it's speed at a lower price

I know it is a common way to pose a question, but it's also useless: there is no way to answer whether something "is worth it" without defining "it" :P

An FX-8320 can game alright. It's not the best you can have, but then again, it never was anyway. So it all boils down to whether you want more performance than it has, and whether your other components are capable of taking advantage of an upgrade. All that's assuming the 8320 is your current CPU.

If you don't have it, but are thinking of buying it instead, then the question becomes how much you'd need to pay for it, and which kind of performance you target.

Regarding its gaming performance, I recommend a series of videos by Tech Deals at Youtube. By going through them you'll get a good idea of what it can and it can't do in different types of games, and paired with more common, less "benchmarkish" GPUs (he uses an OCed 8300, but OCed 8300 or Oced 8320 is all the same).

Like @linustouchtips said, yes if it's cheap enough (used, including motherboard and RAM). But it needs to be seriously cheap and you have to be fine with the fact that it's a short term purchase if you plan on doing modern stuff with your PC.

It's good if it goes down to $0.50

I mean it depends. If you can get it and a mother board for under $110 USD then in that case I would say get it. Any higher avoid like the plague. 8320 owner speaking here lol.

If you want one I'll be getting rid of one with mobo and Ram in a few weeks.

if you want to get one used and pair it with something like a 1060 or 480 you'll do fairly well. It can crush esports games like R6/CSGO/Overwatch and does good in games like GTA/Battlefield, if you change some settings. The only games I have had major issues with is PUBG and Rust. Both of which are still under development and are slowly getting better.

I could run some benches on some of my games over the weekend and upload it to youtube if you want. Get some definite performance numbers. I'm stupid and have a 1070 to go with my 8320 (OC to 4ghz), so you can see the absolute maximum performance it can get.

Also for the love of god, if you buy one throw away the stock cooler. People are not joking when they say that it is a jet engine.

Similar question, can grab an 8320e, MOBO, RAM (16GB), and cryorig C7 for just under 170. Worth the grab? I have an r9 280x to throw in.

Or, just suck it up and buy a ryzen system?

If you already have one, it's good enough. If you're looking at buying one, don't.
