I'm building a new ryzen 7 pc and I'm planing on using my current pc as an htpc. I'm going to be keeping the raid array that I have on those HDD and I'm going to remove my two SSDs and put them in my new system. As a result I am going to need a new HDD. I'm hesitating between This one and That one. I've always been a mass storage user, with lots of videos, music, games, etc... However since I'll be having my  htpc, then most of the data will be in my 6tb raid array. So should I go a safer route with more storage (aka the 5TB wd green) or 3TB will be more than enough and it'll be a better HDD (3TB wd blue)?

Thanks and have a nice day!

They're both WD Greens (5400 rpm blues are greens).

Go with the green ones. WD has changed the Blue name and now also includes 5400RPM and not only 7200RPM which would be better. Same cache, same rpm, go for the higher capacity.

You would think Ubisoft would support the Bulldozer based architectures more given their digging themed names like bulldozer, Piledriver, Steamroller and Excavator.

No, you got it wrong.

They're both WD blue now, greens no longer exist.

They got rid of that naming scheme.

Anything labelled "wd green" is an old gen drive.

I meant they both perform like Greens, not like Caviar Blues.

If it's storage we're talking about, get the larger capacity.

If you want something that's "better" than the budget lineup without spending too much, get a WD Red.

but for this use a red wont be much better. tler isnt helping here, and there still 5400rpm drives

Reds have almost the same read and write speeds as a WD black, while running cooler and quieter.

They also have longer life span.

Blacks are still faster (not worth paying for, but faster) unless something changed in the last few years without WD updating the model numbers.

Well it's as fast as the old black, not the new one, but the increase in reliability and less noise is more important for anyone who isn't on HDD only storage.

I agree, I would never touch a WD Black (not that I would waste my money on a Red for a general use storage drive either).
