that's a shame :/

I'm mostly happy with windows 10 minus some small annoyances here and there. I am eager to see what they have planned next.

me too. I've just got suck of the pushing updates, applications and the spying.

I've had ubuntu installed for a few weeks now, I haven't needed to restart once after installing updates.

that ad looks good, Microsoft finally started having decent ads while apple started having shitty attack ads.

nice to see the new design, hopefully, they stick to it.

O.o

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Hmm not sure how it will end up. Though dark theme in Filed Explorer with tab option would be great, specially dark theme across the board.

Animations must not be slow and tiring, the info density should be proper and not everything scattered with potential multiple clicks to get to something and have wasted space.

anyway windows would be fine for what it is if it wasnt so bloated with crap and useless stuff that kills performance/resources like no other

It is locking you down to have a Windows environment so you can't use linux or Apple.. Apple is doing the same f*cking thing...

Mac doesn't lock you down to anything. You can easily install windows or Linux. macOS supports third party add-on too. Don't make some uninformed fanboy claims here

I'm anticipating it being rushed, poorly thought out and over complicated, with parts of the system using the old styling and parts being duplicated, in typical Microsoft fashion.

I really like this new refined direction, and only hope that it is a full conversion in the end. With elements of windows 7/8 still baked into Win10, and DPI scaling issues still persisting in areas within windows this would be a welcome change.

It does look better than metro. The flat colors of metro do suck

Whoever came up with this design for Explorer should get fired.

Wow, that looks great! I want my Windows to look like that! Is that how the next GUI will look for Windows 10?

The only thing I'm really missing in explorer, and the reason why I almost never use it, is the lack of double panes. I use Altap Salamander for my old school Norton Commander needs. I really wish I would just use Explorer. I mean how hard is it to support double panes?

maybe it will fix scaling

but

If I don't like it, I can be sure that MS will ram it up my butthole with no lube, and give no option to keep old UI and keep up to date. And I'm talking in the case of major usability changes not visual.

It has already been confirmed you will be able to disable it in the settings.

MAIN BUILD!

Windows 10 still hasn't got all settings into the new UI, the old control panel that was in XP is still there.

initially.

muh specs

Gaming and HTPC (reparations)- ASUS 1080, MSI X99A SLI Plus, 5820k- 4.5GHz @ 1.25v, asetek based 360mm AIO, RM 1000x, 16GB memory, 750D with front USB 2.0 replaced with 3.0  ports, 2 250GB 850 EVOs in Raid 0 (why not, only has games on it), some hard drives

Screens- Acer preditor XB241H (1080p, 144Hz Gsync), LG 1080p ultrawide, (all mounted) directly wired to TV in other room

Stuff- k70 with reds, steel series rival, g13, full desk covering mouse mat

All parts black

Workstation(desk)- 3770k, 970 reference, 16GB of some crucial memory, a motherboard of some kind I don't remember, Micomsoft SC-512N1-L/DVI, CM Storm Trooper (It's got a handle, can you handle that?), 240mm Asetek based AIO, Crucial M550 256GB (upgrade soon), some hard drives, disc drives, and hot swap bays

Screens- 3  ASUS VN248H-P IPS 1080p screens mounted on a stand, some old tv on the wall above it.

Stuff- Epicgear defiant (solderless swappable switches), g600, moutned mic and other stuff.

Laptop docking area- 2 1440p korean monitors mounted, one AHVA matte, one samsung PLS gloss (very annoying, yes). Trashy Razer blackwidow chroma...I mean like the J key doesn't click anymore. I got a model M i use on it to, but its time for a new keyboard. Some edgy Utechsmart mouse similar to g600. Hooked to laptop dock for both of my dell precision laptops. (not only docking area)

Shelf- i7-2600 non-k (has vt-d), 380t, some ASUS sandy itx board, intel quad nic. Currently hosts shared files, setting up as pfsense box in VM. Also acts as spare gaming PC with a 580 or whatever someone brings. Hooked into laptop dock area via usb switch

MS needs to do something, so I'm (cautiously) supporting it.

Windows 10's UI is a mess.

It's funny, first we had aero with blurry translucent "glass" and drop-shadows galore. Then there was Metro/Modern with the ultra-flat, boxy, abstract look. Now it seems we're getting some unholy union of the two. I'm thrilled.

Not very tech related but did anyone else pick up the horrible background noise going on in the music track. Sounds like the moment just before an old fashioned kettle starts to whistle the whole way through, pretty annoying!

Pretty much. Basically aero 2.0. But I like it.

Be aware that while ubuntu will never force you to reboot, some updates (namely kernel updates) won't take effect until you do.
