Biostar Digs In With New AMD AM4 Crypto Mining Motherboard

Biostar announced a new AMD AM4 socket motherboard dedicated to crypto mining. The company stated the Biostar TB350-BTC is the first professional crypto mining motherboard designed specifically for the AM4 platform.

In addition to standard features found on other mainstream AM4 socket motherboards, such as support for AMD's Ryzen processors, DDR4 support up to 3,200MHz, a single PCI-E x16 3.0 slot that runs at full speed for Ryzen CPUs and 8X for APUs, USB 3.1, and 7.1 Channel HD audio, this motherboard also includes a moisture proof PCB, electrostatic discharge (ESD) protection, low resistance mosfets, and overvoltage protection.

that's kinda pointless, as most crypto-mining is done on ASIC and FPGA based devices these days.

not true . there are still plenty of profitable coins out there . I make ~6$ a day with ethereum on my dual 290x's.

Not when your parents are paying for it or your electricity is part of an AiO bill. My apartment space is 600/m regardless of utilities used.

roughly ~500w , both chips are undervolted .

That's still roughly 5$ per day profit .

well that's just dandy for those with cheap power, but it'll also come down to, coins/hashes per KW/H, which if you're serious is a defining factor.

The second most popular coin, Ethereum, is extremely ASIC resistant. Another highly popular one, Zcash, is also extremely ASIC resistant.

 

Ignoring all of the Scrypt and X11 clones, there are several algorithms that deal with ASICs by having VRAM intensive operations.

i don't know the other coins, i only really know bitcoin and litecoin, as i was only really involved with the first boom back around 2013, i didn't even know there were that many.

If I had electric heat, I would be mining in the winter.  A couple of GPU's sucking down 500W are going to kick just as much heat into the room as a 500W electric heater.

 

Only the heater does nothing aside from warm up my room and cost money on my utility bill, while a PC dumping heat will play games/mine cryptocurrency and heat my room

Most bitcoin mining is done on ASIC devices, as that's pretty much the only way to make any sort of profit. So I have one question for Biostar.

Not sure how expensive electricity is where you are, but here in NZ that's basically free money.

Nope. A majority are actually done on GPUs. As many altcoins are ASIC proof which leads to GPU farms. This is the main reason why there was such a shortage of 480s and 1060s.
