My PSU got a quadruple kill

Welp My i5 6500, MSI z170-a, 600w chinesium PSU and 2 ddr4 sticks were killed in a major 12v accident, rip computer.

 

on a serious note though Since i didnt have replacement parts I changed the parts one after the other with warranty (mobo first, cpu and now the psu) but still no signal at all. Last thing to swap is the ram so hehe fml, is it possible turning on the pc with the new cpu/mobo and the old psu killed it AGAIN?

I'd suggest getting a better power supply, the one you have now sounds like complete trash, and I wouldn't be surprised if it destroyed the new hardware too.

Yeah I already did, a seasonic eco 430w, was the best thing I could afford

Oh and I forgot to mention, the only reason it stopped working is because I plugged 12v into the mobo usb socket

It remembers how to kill hardware.

 

However, it might be fine after you hit it a few times. Amnesia and all.

 

*EDIT: just hit the PSU with them odd numbers when counting. Them even number hits usually give the memory back, according to them cartoons I watched.

I never understood why people would spend so much money on a computer, only to cheap out the $30 it takes to buy a quality PSU over something cheap. The PSU only connects to virtually every component

I guess this +800$ error will make me rethink PSU buying.

@dizmo Yeah, but chinisium also has it's place on the market. Can work great, if you keep the quality in the back of your mind. I've also bought a cheap/crappy PSU for my current system. (old used cheap hardware) And it works fine and is very stable.

Sounds like more of the exception than the rule. Also, those PSUs are generally used for less power laden systems. Something with a very low powered GPU, CPU, etc.

well, 90% of what I buy is chinesium if I can, its just cheaper. The PSU Was also bought used and has served me for Overclocking and gaming for over 2 years, I'm still not sure if it was the cause of the incident and not just the fact the mobo has no overvoltage protection since the PSU has all the correct voltages and nothing was wrong when I opened it.

Considering you fried some of your hardware by pluging in a 12 volt connector where it should not go... I would consider re-using that PSU. Seems you have looked at it carefully, and I think that PSU did have some protection.

 

On a side-note: I have taken an old chinesium 300 watt PSU out of a donor pc, and put it on top of my pc. It is currently hotwired, and powering some random fans. It is also powering a (chinesium) car sigaret lighter. I don't have any issues with it whatsoever. That cheap/crap PSU can make metal red hot, using the 12 volts rail. Burning trough some tiny coper wires on a 5 volts USB rail would be peanuts.

I think it will make a great lab power supply or maybe a psu for one of my trash pc's lol but not my main pc anymore
