Note: This is just news, so please don't start any flame wars about the PS4 and Xbox One.

So i recently came upon an article regarding the operating temperatures of the PS4. In the linked article below:

http://www.kotaku.com.au/2013/11/thermal-photos-of-the-ps4-show-just-how-hot-sonys-new-console-gets/

Over the course of updating the firmware, creating a profile and then leaving the unit on standby to let the controller charge, the console hit 30.2°C at its hottest — the measurement taken from the “top side” of the unit. Of course, what we want to see is how the console performs when playing games and for that, Arabian loads up Killzone: Shadow Fall.

After 30 minutes of play, the top registers 45.5°C at its peak, while the bottom clocks in at 49.4°C. Finally, a measurement is taken of the vents, which come in at 61.6°C.

As for the horizontal readings… the difference is only a couple of degrees with the biggest variance being the vents — 56°C. Note that this measurement was taken after three hours of play.

So what i've been reading online is people complaining about how "hot" the PS4 runs, now to me those temperatures and those thermal images suggest that it gets up to 60 degrees but i'm pretty sure it's a fair bit hotter at the CPU and GPU. However the overall conclusion i've come down to is that these temperatures are fine. We have CPUs and GPUs that can run up to and 95 degrees celcius so its not really a huge deal and not to mention, the PS4 is in a small case so its not like there's a lot of room for good cooling, would be interesting to see what the "slim" version would look like though, the PS4 is slim enough. :P So really i just think console owners just aren't aware of the operating temperatures hardware hardware are capable of, though for some they're worried about the overall longevity of the product.

Here's also a video of the fan noise of the PS4 after a few minutes of playing. People have been saying its due to the poor location the PS4 is located in, an enclosure with no airflow so those are something to keep in mind, but i'll let you guys decide that for yourself.

Either way i don't intend on getting the PS4 unless there's an exclusive i really want.

When folding my CPU gets to 70-75 C and my GPU never goes above 60 C... (GPU fan is always at 100%)

Shit, isn't that loud? My GPU never goes above 65 on Furmark, and the fan scales 1:1 with temperature.

I always think it's funny that people think a cooling fan making noise when cooling an electronic component is bad. If they were hot and quiet without the fan spinning now that is a problem. I bet the old consoles were loud too but you don't have to heard the disc as much anymore so the fans are now the loud part.

I still have my refurbished Xbox 360 Pro and the power brick on that thing has it's own fan, needless to say it gets pretty damn loud.

You don't break 65 on Furmark, what kind of case cooling do you have?  I have always known Furmark to be a be a software furnace.

Shitty paste application on the heatsinks maybe??

That and it's blower fan, having the intake and exhaust right next to each other so there'll be some recycling of hot air and having to cool both the PSU and APU. I don't think there's much to worry about though.
