CPU for gaming

I play a lot of CPU intensive games like Arma 3. I am wondering what CPU would be best to get to get the highest gaming performance. I am thinking an i7 7700k is my best bet but I am wondering if there is a better AMD counterpart or even a better Intel CPU (like one with more cores). Would 4 cores be enough for gaming? and would an 8800k be worth waiting for?

7700K is the best gaming chip right now, but you really don't need such a powerful chip unless you want 144+ FPS. if you only want/need 60 max, you could be fine with a Ryzen 1600.

7700k would be a good choice for arma. Make sure though not to spend too much in the cpu and too little in the gpu

1600 is a great price/performance choice right now. Cheaper than the 7700k and a 6 core so better in productivity also. Silky smooth gameplay with better frametimes and can stream too, all for under £200!

 

As for waiting for coffee lake, meh something will always be in development in tech, thats like saying should you wait for Ryzen 2. The answer is always no just buy whats best at the time. UNLESS the new product launch is imminent (1-2 weeks away) which coffee lake isn't. Build now, get stuck in and have a great time. Don't wait for tech.

very little people actually recommend an 1800X. most people recommend a 1700, which people can overclock to be like an 1800X

how low-end?

anything 6500 and better is not worth it, and if you already have a modern intel platform, it could be cheaper just to get an i7.

 

that being said, it is a noteworthy upgrade. it has 3X the threads, and 2 more cores, so it's much more powerful.

so 2 more cores (and lower clockspeeeds/overclockability) isn't really a big upgrade.

I'd assume that we all give feedback on things that we don't own.

 

however, I've seen through online benchmarks that highly clocked quad cores are more effective at gaming that lower clocked 6 or 8 cores. if you overclock a 4790K to 4.5Ghz, you can easily match a stock 7700, which is shown in benchmarks to beat Ryzen chips in games.

anything 6500 and better is not worth it, and if you already have a modern intel platform, it could be cheaper just to get an i7.

 

that being said, it is a noteworthy upgrade. it has 3X the threads, and 2 more cores, so it's much more powerful.

however, I've seen through online benchmarks that highly clocked quad cores are more effective at gaming that lower clocked 6 or 8 cores. if you overclock a 4790K to 4.5Ghz, you can easily match a stock 7700, which is shown in benchmarks to beat Ryzen chips in games.

Ok but Iv had both my 4790k was at 4.8 ghz and my 1600 is at 4ghz 

 

its a smoother rounded experiance in gaming maby 5fps less tops
