if you sell everything together a good $1500

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

Spoiler

I priced out the pc on pcpartpicker (everything but peripherals and monitor) and brand new everything is $1500. Do you think I will have a problem selling this thing around $1000?

I doubt it, in my area (Chicago) systems with 6700ks and Gtx 970s only go for about 1200-1500 on Craigslist. I would guess you could get 1000$ tops.

Let me rephrase, I sold the PC back in September. It was a nice computer, 12gb of ram and actually had a 390x instead of a 290 (i build and sell a lot of pc's, it gets confusing), it also came with 2 24'' 1080p monitors, keyboard, and mouse as well as the 8350. I think 800 was a great price for that pc

This is a huge problem on this forum, and for some reason people always feel they need to chime in with what they think it's worth when really it's irrelevant and the only way to find out is to put in the work yourself.

  1. Go on your local classifieds (Craigslist, Kijiji, WHY)
  2. Compare the prices of computers with similar spec
  3. Price either slightly higher if you offer more, or slightly lower if you want a quick sale
  4. Profit

That's the only way you can do it. Computers are worth vastly different amounts depending on where you live and what's currently available on your local used market. If you're the only person selling a computer of that grade, then guess what, you can price a whole hell of a lot higher than a place where there's 8 or 9 other people trying to sell high end gaming computers.

So, put in the work and reap the rewards.

I wouldn't say the kid was ripped off, simply failed to do the appropriate research and thus overpaid for what they got.

As if you wouldn't be stoked you made a decent return on what you sold.

yes and no, ripping people off is not funny or should be encouraged. when i was around 12- 18 i used to hunt for used pc parts, people overpricing was a problem. its sad to see people ripping kids off just because they feel like it. just because you can rip people off that's not the reason to do it, its a dick move. most people buying used computer parts don't have mountains of money to spend on useless overpriced parts.

The whole build seems mismatched I would say it matters on how long you have been using it. Remember that part of the new price is the waranty, I would take the PC part picker list and subtract 35-40%

Getting ripped off is 100% the fault of the purchaser. I have bought and sold stuff used all my life, and avoiding getting ripped off is a simple matter of due dilligence. If I'm in the market to buy a used 970 and someone offers to sell it to me for $250, I can either accept it, and get ripped off, or I can simply look on google and see that there are tons of other 970s being sold for more like $150. If people can't do the most basic levels of due dillegence on a used transaction, then is their fault for buying mispriced goods.

not gonna argue but moral high ground, its the fault of the old people for giving scammers money. there is a basic form of integrity people have to be trustworthy as an individual.
