How much is my PC worth?

not gonna argue but moral high ground, its the fault of the old people for giving scammers money. there is a basic form of integrity people have to be trustworthy as an individual.

Yeah, I agree, the seller does have a responsibility. That being said, it is my experience with people that given a chance to better oneself at the expense of another, people tend to take it. While I certainly try to have integrity when buying or selling, most people likely do not.

and that's everything new.. maybe $40 difference if you had a 120GB SSD

You can't just pick random parts that "might" have been in the PC. The case was different, motherboard was nicer, psu was better, and the monitos came with a dual monitor stand. This was also several months ago when prices were different/ higher.

My Main PC:

CPUi5 3570k CPU Cooler: Cooler Master Hyper T4 Motherboard: Asus p8z77-v pro  RAM: Crucial Balistic 2x4gb  GPU: Two PNY GTX 680's in SLI Case: Some rando Antec one  PSU: Thermaltake 1000w  Display: HP Elite Display 321i 23''  Storage: Samsung 840 Evo 128gb, Seagate Barracuda 1tb

yeah, monitor stand is $20-30, psu is still solid, mobos for am3+ aren't that expensive, and the r9 fury has been lower previously, as well as ssd/ram prices due to dram shortage

idk

That $30 you're talking about still adds on price. And sure the corsair psu is still solid, but the one I had in the system was better with a higher wattage, was brand new, and cost more. Like I said before, you can't pick random parts and tell me what my items were worth.

that makes more sense, still you ripped off some poor kid.

Also didn't see this reply. Person was older than me, how did I rip off some poor kid? In fact, everything I've sold on Craigslist the person was always older than me. The guy I sold the pc to we were talking about texted me a few days later saying he loved the pc, I don't see how he was ripped off. And you still don't know everything I included with the pc, the kid even took the fucking desk I was showing it to him on because his desk wouldn't support the dual monitor stand.

checking on the core parts of the system I put above shows that the prices were cheaper last year vs current prices. last year you could pick up a kit of Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB DDR4 for like $40 off sale, now it's $55-60

my point is that you can build a faster system new for a little bit more. even with a 970 board and a better case. sure, I'm not you, I don't know what was in the system when it was sold.

yes and no, ripping people off is not funny or should be encouraged. when i was around 12- 18 i used to hunt for used pc parts, people overpricing was a problem. its sad to see people ripping kids off just because they feel like it. just because you can rip people off that's not the reason to do it, its a dick move. most people buying used computer parts don't have mountains of money to spend on useless overpriced parts.

That's the thing though, overpricing is completely in the eye of the beholder unless it's over MSRP. Even then, if there's demand and no supply, that's not really overpriced, it's pricing to market conditions. What you might see as a rip off, someone else sees as either necessity pricing, or a good deal. "Useless overpriced parts" again, in the eye of the beholder. If the person isn't willing to put in the research to find out what they need, they shouldn't be hunting the used market for what they need. They should be going to a shop.

In this case, the build @Droidbot came up with might not even be representative of what he sold. He just picked the cheapest current pricing for a generic part. He could have had much better monitors, higher end motherboard, etc etc.
