Its a classic Nintendo strategy, ship a small amount of units to big name stores so it looks like they're selling out quickly when infact they just don't have stock to replace them with in an attempt to artificially increase demand.

And saying they don't count is moving the goalpost to suit your argument, there's 326 Switch's for sale right now on Amazon and if demand was as high as you say then they'd be sold even at an increased price. Remember people were paying upwards of $500 for NES Minis on EBay.

Those are all reselling, not retail. They are all 3rd party. It's like saying it's being sold on ebay so it's not sold out. Most of them are even 'just launched'. It's sold out at all official dealers in the US.

 

If nintendo does release a small amount then I'll give you they aren't selling well.

Anything on ebay sure. But "sold out" Refers to retail availability. its a term used globally and is understood to be as such. As ebay is not a retail store (online or otherwise) it does not count.

I went through it before... I purchased a Macbook air 2014 (Back in the day), and it was less than MSRP, so I bought it and the order kept getting canceled. The link wasn't bad, but the fact that it kept getting sold out that the person/bot kept putting the link back up. Information is sent as soon as you buy it, but since their intention was never to sell it to you they just cancel your order.

 

They are not taking your money and running, so it's all ethical, but the problem is your information is sent to them.

Amazon Mexico has it in stock. In fact most Mexican retailers have it in stock, no problem on day 1. My first thought was that this was normal because of the markup (after import tax it's 450 bucks for the base unit)

To be fair that was just before Christmas, people looking for requested presents, or really wanted to play it with family at Christmas, so may have been more willing to pay way over MSRP. Beginning of March it's people buying for themselves, the Switch has been released into a very different market to the NES Mini.

It's certainly sold out "online" in any case and being sold on ebay for nearly double the retail price.

But honestly, at $400 CAD just for the console and another $80 for the only game worth getting (not to mention the 15% sales tax on top of that)... I could just buy a slim PS4(500GB) for $300CAD instead, get access to games like Horizon and it comes with Uncharted 4 too.

 

As much as I would want a Switch for Zelda, I just can't justify that price tag to my wallet.

That's called anecdotal evidence and all that proves if you had a bad sale, that in no way correlates to any other seller on Amazon or EBay.
