1080/1080 ti or wait for the 1180

Candren Lycosa

I currently have a GeForce GTX 960 4gb and I'm wanting to play some of the newer titles coming out, should i budget a GTX 1080 or wait for the GTX 1080 TI or the 1180?

Buy a great video card now if you're itching for one, and be happy with it. The whole idea of "xxx vs future better yyy product" becomes a repeating cycle, because you'll be waiting for the next product, and then you'll be back to "xxx vs future better yyy product." If the current products are compelling enough to you, then buy one of them.

It's up to you.

Do you want to wait in order to get the same performance for less money?

Is the time waiting worth paying less?

Nobody except you can answer these questions.

really depends on the resolution you want to play at and the refresh rate, the 1080 will do 1440k at high refresh rates fine, or 4k playable, 1080ti will do 4k a little better, but for 1080 high refresh rate or 1440k 60fps the 1070 would do

Going from a 960 to a 1080 or this 1080ti will be nutty. If you are just doing 1080p, 1080 will probably be all you need for like any game, unless you are running some crazy stuff on that new 240hz monitor.

even if you are aiming for 240FPS in most games, your CPU will bottleneck you hard before that. that's the reason why 144hz is so popular lmao

idk

Any of those will play new titles at 1080p well. What resolution are you looking to play at?

I'm looking to play at Ultra settings at 1080p (maybe 1440p). I mostly play Black Desert Online which is not an easy game to run. screen shot is my settings (I mostly get 30-50 fps)8cf7fa6895.jpg

A 1080 will serve you fine

Yes, but a 1080 would be overkill at 1080p, a 1070 would be fine for this, also this all depends on your CPU as the GPU could face a CPU bottleneck if your CPU isn't up to snuff.

That's on the 960? It doesn't look too hard to run, then. A 1080 will serve you fine, but you may want to wait and see if there's a price cut.

Yes, but at world bosses i have to turn all the settings down to low otherwise i would get 3-5 fps

I would suggest a 1080 at the max, the 1080ti will likely be several hundred dollars more, and the 1180 will likely be showing its face at the soonest more than a year from now if not longer (Pascal was quite the jump for Nvidia and the move to a new process could take quite some time).

I decided to go with the GTX 1080 TI since it's the same price as the 1080 before it's announcement, I'm just waiting for @LinusTech to release those sweet, sexy benchmarks before I go out to buy it.

Or if you want really new tech, wait for the VEGA and see what it can do...
