How big of an issue is 30fps gaming?

Gdourado

i play ps4 + ps3 at 30fps and its very playable to me (excluding gta v+ far cry 4 for ps3, both have the crappiest frame rate anyone could imagine)..

Would the games look better at 60? yeah no doubt but as long as I am not dealing with choppy frame issues (like gta v ps3) while playing 30fps, I don't mind the 30fps lock on consoles

Now playing 30hz or locking your pc to 30fps is a BIG NO-NO..try it and you would know what i mean :)

Don't call me a nerd, it makes me look slightly smarter than you

I suppose it's a bit subjective. It's one of those things like resolution, a low-ish one is perfectly acceptable... Until you've experienced better. It's the difference between eating a really nice piece of bread on its own after eating exquisite sandwiches. Not sure how distance would affect it, I play PC games on the couch and I find 30fps pretty intolerable.

30fps is playable, as long as it's steady.  Lower than that and I start getting sick at my stomach though.

Anything less than 60 and I feel rage building in my soul

Of course I prefer 60fps. But to be honest, when I play sometimes on my Xbox 360 on 30fps, I don't see any difference between 30 and 60fps. Maybe it's just me. Personal.

millions of people have played and still play at 30FPS and haven't died

30FPS being unacceptable is just /r/pcmr bullcrap

is 60+FPS better? yes, but that doesn't make 30FPS games unplayable

there are games on PC that have a 30FPS lock .. immagine that

Yeah, it not end of the world.

I play both on PC and console.  Most of the time I am too busy enjoying the darn game then worrying over how high the fps is.  The biggest concern to me is smooth, solid fps.

It's funny, when I used to have Xbox 360 as my primary gaming device I never noticed the frame rate. Hell, even when I used to game on my crappy overpriced HP laptop and was getting no better than 10-20 frames max in most games it didn't bother me that much. It's only since I built my gaming rig that FPS has started to really bother me. In my opinion 30 FPS or 60 FPS doesn't really objectively matter, it only matters if it bothers YOU. Fuck what the haters say. What does matter in my opinion is inconsistent frame rate. I could game at 60 FPS and if it drops to 50 for even a second it'll drive me nuts.

Another thing to consider is what type of game it is. So in a game like XCOM 2 or Ori and the Blind Forest the frame rate can run a lot lower and it doesn't really matter compared to something like, I dunno, CoD or something like that where you're whipping the screen around left and right constantly. A bad FPS there could have a real impact on your KD ratio.
