The longest anyone stayed without formatting their OS (5 years for my PC running win7) what about yours?

Was wondering what is the longest you guys have stayed with your operating systems without the need of formatting it.

About four years I think.  For College I build a pair of RAID1 arrays in my workstation and then kept those RAID1s and that Windows install, even migrating them from a P67 board to a Z77 board and then to an X79 board.  I even later I migrated the install off of RAID1 to just a single drive.  Then migrated it to an SSD.

 

Though while tinkering with Windows 10 last December, I decided to do a fresh install.

the longest i have gone maybe like 3 months or all of my computers but its not out of need its out of just cleaning it out and starting fresh but i keep reinstalling and sticking with windows 10 pro build 10240

My home desktop has been up and running for about 3 years now. It used to be my main but since i've switched over to a laptop i've let the wife use it for her work, which means it's probably overdue for a refresh now.

I hate formatting to my very soul, so I won't do it unless I have no other choice.

 

I ran the same installation of Windows ME from 2000 until 2008. I have some XP machines that probably lasted 10 years.

 

Upgrading systems is a lot more painless these days so I can't foresee ever having to go that long again.

Well i personally reinstall my OS very often, my brother (the old days 2000's) i think he had about 6-7 years....

Practically never. At least, I've never re-installed since Win7 came out. What are you all doing to need to do that so often? And it's not like I change my main system that often either, I run them on average 4 years or more simply as setting up software is such a big pain and usually takes days. Even after I change main system, I usually keep my old one for another couple of years or so. I might then do a wipe and clean install before resale if it is worth the time.

 

The last time I had to do it was back in the XP/IE6 days when I got a browser hijack that I couldn't clean up.

The record probably goes to either my old Gateway GP500 or my netbook that I used to have. Meanwhile both my main machine, laptop, and secondary machine can't even hit a year.

Yep. Hell, in like 2 weeks when I get a new drive for all my games I'm going to reinstall Windows since it's getting a little bitchy.

I mean you don't really format a Mac so probably over 14 years. Also yes I still use it. Just for googling stuff and an occasional gaming sessions with tony hawk pro skater, nano saur, or zoo tycoon

I haven't reinstalled Windows on my main PC since I installed it for the first time on 10 May 2012. I don't plan on reinstalling Windows, everything's set up how I like it and I'll need days to get it set up like this again if I ever manage to.

GF's machine tends to go about 2years before it gets so sluggish it needs to be reset, I bought a 2015 Mac Mini when they refreshed and just had to reset that today as it was SO damn slow.
