What do YOU want to see back in the PC building mainstream

1 minute ago, Generallee said:

Back in the day it was all about 5.25 bay reservoirs and the maximum amount of tubing you could cram in a case, bonus points for purple and green color themes

I have the same exact Antec P182, they don't make them like this anymore unless you shell out them shekels I tell you that mate

Oh I know. I had a 5.25 kit for my Antec P182 as well on my Pentium 4. was the only way it didn't melt itself regularly.

but that tubing job makes me cringe!

Wasn't that GPU only released in the Asian market and ridiculously priced? One-offs (sorta, Colorful tends to go over the top) aren't really, ehm, mainstream. Rollercoaster heatsinks were.

Motherboards with more power phases than RGB lights.

Idk what a power phase is but can't we have both?    I like lights in my case.  Nothing super bright but enough that I can see what's in my computer.

Maybe I'm crazy but I think it's really cool to be able to see my sexy GPU and watch my CPU cooler's fan spinning.  ?

I'll echo some of the above. I miss the 'ghetto' setups of the 90s and early 00s. The good old days of overclocking anything and everything, before that was locked down by cpu and chipset manufacturers, the good old days of attatching car parts and bits of plumbing equipment to your rig before companies like EK, corsair etc started offering legit units cheap enough that folks no longer had to improvise.

Also max power style gauge clusters in all your 5.25" bays displaying useless information.

Also to add in, actual real 'risk' involved during overclocking. The good old days of melting prescott pentiums, and exploding PSUs.

As for things I dont miss. Fucking 'capacitor plague' :D.

Having good looking parts is nice, no argument there but lights don't help with performance. Power phases help smooth out the power being fed to a CPU or GPU, that means better clock speeds. Well I guess it can mean better clock speeds.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

I want simple builds without all the flashy bullcrap.

No RGB, no lighting, no glass side panels, no flashy colors, just nice simple, quiet cases that are out of the way. I'm not someone who has to be "proud" of their computer. I have other things to be proud of. It's not like I put any effort into building the computer. Virtually legos for adults.

I miss computer shops being an actual thing that you could do successfully.
