iPhone 2G Prototype is up on eBay for 7000$-The Holy Grail of iPhones

Back when iPhone 6 prototype was on eBay in March 2016, everyone was pissing their pants about it. Well, guess what? The iPhone 2G prototype is up for publicity.

 

 

This is the coolest thing ever. It could be possibly running the very firstest iOS version ever.

 

Now how much does this monstrocity cost? For what you get it's fairly priced at 7000$. Considering the iPhone 6 proto sold for more than 40000$, it's quite a bargain.

 

If I had 7000$ and had to pick between the iPhone 2G proto and a used Mercedes, it would honestly be a tough call for me.

 

Have 7000$ to spend on a phone? Or maybe you want to have the best New Year gift ever? Here's the eBay source:

I wouldn't use it at all if I bought it.  I would keep it clean af and put it in a glass case in my home office.  It would of course have to match the lighting scheme of my rig and laptop (light blue).

 

I see this more as a piece of history than a daily driver.

My mom still uses an ancient iPhone 4S.  I tried to give her my old S6 Edge but shes one of those people that hate to be wasteful because thats how she grew up.

That's weird. Why do you want something like this and why are you willing to spend so much money on it? You cannot do much with it. What will you use it for when you get it? You can buy an old 2G for much less and put the same stickers on the back. Where is the proof that this is even a real testing unit? Am I missing something? Why is everybody excited about this? I wouldn't want it even if they were giving it away for free.

You're right. Why would I want a Model T if it's slow, dangerous to drive, and pricey for it's hp to cost ratio?

4S isn't orignal iPhone ancient. I could still use a 4S as it is still fairly up to date.

Only Apple can put that software on that phone. That is proof enough.

iPhone prototypes, and especially this one in particular, are extermely rare. The first clue to this being a proto is the software it uses, and the overall design. This is clearly a proto and is worth waaay more than suggested 7000$.

lol, I just bought a iPhone SE for myself. Been using my iPhone 4 since the release day (4, not 4s), and despite being freezing a little bit, was still awesome.

Why should a prototype cost so much? It is of no use to anybody anymore. It served its purpose when it was needed many years ago. Even if there was only 1 of these, what difference does it make. It is still useless. Why the high price???

I didn't mean to say that, but oh well. I should have googled before asking... Wikipedia has the topic of collecting old stuff explained and it actually makes sense. Apparently it is related to emotions, and this creates positive emotions for many people, so there's that.

I've heard of collector's item, however an iPhone prototype seemed really strange to me. I get the idea of collecting unique stuff, for example a unique book, or painting, but this... Anyways, if buying this will make the buyer feel good, then it is worth it I guess.
