15" Touchbar Mac Book Pro users now reporting battery life problems (less than 33% advertised life)

Master Disaster

Things just keep getting better for Apple and the MBP 2016. This time its a slew of users who've taken to Apples forums and reddit saying their pros are only lasting 3 hours on a full charge despite Apple advertising 10 hours on the products sales page. This issue seems to be only affecting users with 15" touch bar models.

Quote

Owners of Apple's new MacBook Pro with Touch Bar are complaining that they're not getting anywhere near the stated battery life.

Apple's own support community, along with sites such as Reddit, are ablaze with complaints that the battery is not delivering the promised 10 hours.

One user said he got 3 hours life with just safari open so not doing anything remotely strenuous.

Quote

A user posting to Apple's support forum claimed their battery ran down in three hours.

"I just received my new 15" MacBook Pro with touch bar. The battery life is horrible!!! I have Safari open with 6 tabs and with 95% battery, I am told that I have under 3 hours of battery life left! I thought these things were supposed to get 10 hours? I ran the battery down in 3 hours last night only browsing the web. I wasn't watching videos, just browsing. Is there something wrong with my laptop?"

Some users are speculating the issue is with AMD GPUs being very power hungry and eating the battery life but this is unconfirmed.

Quote

It is currently unclear what might be at the root of this problem, but an issue with the discrete Radeon graphics chip is suspected (although far from confirmed).

So far, beyond keeping usage to a minimum or keeping the MacBook Pro connected to a power outlet, there are no fixes. It is likely that users will have to wait for a patch from Apple (or return the MacBook Pro for an exchange or refund).

You couldn't make this up, Apple fucked up so badly with this device and yet the Isheep still defend it and Apple. Now your portable "pro" device has to be tethered if you want to use it for more than 3 hours? Just wow.

Dell was having a $600 off sale for the fully specced out model, so I decided to get it :P

-Crapbook

Fully specced out early 2013 Macbook "pro" with gt 650m and constant 105c temperature on the CPU (GPU is 80-90C) when doing anything intensive...

A 2013 laptop with a regular sized battery still has better battery life than a 2017 laptop with a massive battery! I think this is a testament to apple's ability at making laptops, or maybe how little CPU technology has improved even 4+ years later (at least, until the recent introduction of 15W 4 core CPUs). Anyway, I'm never going to get a 35W CPU laptop again unless battery technology becomes ~5x better than as it is in 2018.

Apple knows how to make proper consumer-grade laptops (they don't know how to make pro laptops though). I guess this mostly software power efficiency related, but getting a mac makes perfect sense if you want a portable/powerful laptop that can do anything you want it to with great battery life.

Yep they fucked up hard, the worst part of this is that apple is known for having good battery life.

Also the touchbar, also has a lot of bugs. A guy has to restart his macbook daily, because the touchbar pops up on the screen and the touchbar just goes black.

GG Apple you made a product that is worse than a Acer cancertop.

Yep, at this point the only benefit you get from a MBP over any Windows laptop is Apple Care, every other usual Apple plus point has been designed out or has vanished in a puff of smoke.

Ok....if the battery life is around 3 hours, its worse than my 2010HP Pavilion DV6 3010AX if I had a 9cell battery installed.

Welp, isn't it ironic that Apple went down the shitter when Jobs died..

Apple's had a year of fuckups; the iPhone 7, the new MacBook Pro, the various defects with iPhone 6 and 6S/Plus units, etc

all they had to do was change the MacBook air to a quad core i7, put in a higher res screen, a bigger battery, and then call that the new MacBook pro. Tim Cook needs to resign and let someone younger and more talented in

Having issues with a Corsair AIO? Possible fix here:

Spoiler

Are you getting weird fan behavior, speed fluctuations, and/or other issues with Link?

Are you running AIDA64, HWinfo, CAM, or HWmonitor? (ASUS suite & other monitoring software often have the same issue.)

Corsair Link has problems with some monitoring software so you may have to change some settings to get them to work smoothly.

-For AIDA64: First make sure you have the newest update installed, then, go to Preferences>Stability and make sure the "Corsair Link sensor support" box is checked and make sure the "Asetek LC sensor support" box is UNchecked.

-For HWinfo: manually disable all monitoring of the AIO sensors/components.

-For others: Disable any monitoring of Corsair AIO sensors.

That should fix the fan issue for some Corsair AIOs (H80i GT/v2, H110i GTX/H115i, H100i GTX and others made by Asetek). The problem is bad coding in Link that fights for AIO control with other programs. You can test if this worked by setting the fan speed in Link to 100%, if it doesn't fluctuate you are set and can change the curve to whatever. If that doesn't work or you're still having other issues then you probably still have a monitoring software interfering with the AIO/Link communications, find what it is and disable it.

TBH, every single iPhone 6 should have been recalled due to the lack of underfill for the touch IC, and the ease of which the phone could bend (which was one of things that made the lack of underfill apparent). It was reported on by unauthorised repair shops for a while before Apple finally stopped deleting posts about it when it was finally picked up by the media.

Happened to a friend of mine. He really fed up.

Also he blamed the touch bar and said at least, 50% of the time the touch bar is too hot for him to even "touch".

He is a power user, with a lot of google chrome tabs open, an IDE and photoshops and some other program running in the background, his 15 inch macbook pro 2016 can only get 2.5 hours of battery life. However if Chrome is not being used, the machine can last A LOT longer than that.

I love my macbook pro... not everyone who uses apple's products is an isheep.

If it is not broken, let's fix till it is.

Clearly all haters, trying to throw shit at apple, Also why would anyone use a computer for more than 3 hours is beyond me. Bet they don't even have real macbooks, probably Chinese hackintosh cause help never lies about battery life. Must be the same kind of people who think that more ram doesn't drain the battery.
