Why did Intel kick Nvidia from the chipset market?

Remember when Nvidia made nForce chipsets for Intel and AMD?

 

Then they dropped AMD and went Intel exclusive.

 

Intel got sick of them though and said "NO MORE MAKING CHIPSETS FOR US!"

 

Nvidia went crawling back to AMD, but AMD was like "Fuck off boys, we got ATI now!"

 

Then Nvidia was like "We're gonna start charging board makers an SLI fee, and add SLI support to AMD cause our AMD customers are begging for it!"

 

Then the forum members were like "You only added AMD support to make more from that fee cause Intel kicked you from the chipset market!"

 

Nvidia responded with "NOOOO, we don't need the damn chipset market!"

 

Now to this day, Biostar boards still don't support SLI cause that extra fee.

 

Why did all of this happen?

Right after socket 775, cause Nvidia chipset aren't that great.

What is it with you and stories about how AMD has always been superior?? The whole stock market thing too. We get AMD used to be good and probably still are. But right now Nvidia makes more sense. Plz no h8 m8

Well hold on, you cannot just say a blanket statement like "Right now NVIDIA makes more sense".

 

You need to look at each individual product segment, and make an informed decision. NVIDIA certainly makes sense within certain price segments, and they are your only realistic option for high end and enthusiast products, but there are some excellent options in the mid-range and low-end segment from AMD that are just as (sometimes more) competitive over NVIDIA.

 

What you just said is just as bad as the OP (supposedly) claiming AMD is the great saviour.

While the thread started with little substance, I was looking forward to a reasonably sound explanation of this by way of comment only because I'm too lazy to research something that only slightly piqued my interest on the spot.

On top of that, Motherboard Manufacturers no doubt decided that it wasn't worth the extra cost of buying an NVIDIA chipset for their boards, and I'd be really surprised if NVIDIA could supply them for cheaper then AMD or Intel could.

I think the main benefit of the nForce chipsets was integrated graphics, but as Intel's solution for it became better, they just did away with it.

I'm not sure that all nForce chipsets had integrated graphics though - I had an old Socket 939 motherboard with an nForce 200 series chipset, and I don't recall it ever having onboard video (Could well be mistaken though! I built that PC about... 12 years ago - ish).

Uhm I like Nvidia as much as AMD. This had nothing to do with that.

 

It was to do with that for the first time since ever, Biostar looks like a very viable option with their Z170 boards.

 

The lack of SLI sucks though as I'm too pure to mix Intel and AMD.

 

I also just bought a second 980 Ti and while I'm set on the Z170 WS...I like options!

 

Plus I miss nForce boards.

Lol I had a super small and worthless emachines with an nForce chip. I tried to upgrade to Windows 10 and it was having none of that.

 

I stopped at a random house one night, sat it in their yard, and dipped like a son of a bitch.
