What was Your very first Internet Connection speed?

had 56k dialup in around 2007 when i was 4. seemed like it was 20k because i live in new zealand.

 

now i have adsl2+ 15mbit down, 1 up.

im getting gigabit fibre in a month

33k dial-up (internal modem), upgraded to 56k soon after.

 

It took me 10 hours (3 nights) to download the Deus Ex demo (150mb). I think I still have my Diamond Supra Express modem somewhere.

56K dial up modem. You're extremely happy when a download actually reaches 5Kb/s... and then it cuts out at 99% download...

For me, it was like 28.8k or 56k (actually more like 40-44k) dialup, then we upgraded to cable at a few mbps at the time.  Now it's capable of 50 but a cox guy I talked to at the mall yesterday said ours is capped at 25 cause of our ancient modem. (the instruction manual mentions driver installation on windows 98  )

When I made the jump from 256k to 1mbps was probably the most noticeable - mainly because it's when I switched from dial up to broadband.

Pretty sure it was 2400 baud, then onward through the speeds until got to 56k and had that up until 2003. Since then been on a 10/1 DSL connection. Upload is total trash, but is the best I can get here in rural VA.

Very first was dialup,  I think it was around 28Kb/s,  I remember buying an external serial port modem that would connect to 36 Kb/s.

 

First real jump that made say wow was when I got DSL, 128 Kb/s. I remember that the first thing I downloaded with it was the service pack 1 of windows XP.

My first ever speed was 0.5 down and 0.3 up... I now have 4 down and 1 up and it's still terrible to download games. I'm just glad I can now play online games because before the ping was usually in the 500-600s and now I can usually get below 150. Sadly no one else provides internet in my area so RIP...

I still have my PCI 56K modem. It has 2 telephone jacks and a built in speaker. Can make calls out with my computer using Windows built in phone dialer or hyper terminal program. It used to come with 98 to XP. Problem is I don't have a headset so I can't respond to that person and all I hear is screaming of "HELLO!" coming out of my modem speaker inside the computer.
