33.6 Kb/s at home, 14.4 Kb/s a couple of years earlier in the deputy head teacher's office (the other school computers didn't even have hard disks yet). Eventually V.92 came into existence and my birthday money went on a 56K external modem.

 

If only modems were that reliable these days. After less then 2 days on 300 Mb/s down, 20 Mb/s up I told my ISP their new hardware was a POS and went back to 200/12.

Modem > coax > NIU > Mushroom (splitter) > fiber
