Intel is rumoured to release the first i3 K SKU with Kaby Lake, the i3 7350K. It has a base clock of 4.2GHz, 4MB L3 Cache, 2C/4T and an unlocked multiplier. It seems that intel is preparing against AMDs Zen "SR3" CPUs.

Also it's supposed to cost around 180USD.

Why would someone buy that? Makes far more sense at $150, given that a low-clocked i5 still owns an overclocked i3.

Ew, there are better coolers. That's pushing it also. A BeQuiet! Pure Rock, Cryorig M9i, Rajintek has a better cooler. At 1.35v the 212 Evo barely keeps my i3 at a decent temp.

What I like better is your name, @TheLaserCucumber

My i3 competes with locked i5's pretty well in a ton of games.

It depends if they raise the prices of the I5 to a 250$ minimum or something, the I3 will still have a place, if they make HT better than it is it would make more sense, or if the IPC is way better compared to a 6400 or 4460

Would of been nice if they did this 3-5 years ago when 9/10 games didn't scale past 2-4 cores.

Sounds neat, but not for that price.  I like the idea of overclocking an i3 but I'm unsure of the real world gains, and even using it in a micro build it will probably require more than the stock Intel cooler.  It will be hard to swallow a $180 cpu plus a cooler when I'm not sure there will be any gain over an i5 for give or take the same money.

At that price, it seems more like they expect AMD to go bankrupt and have even more market power.

No i3 is worth more than €100.

I agree with you that a lot of people probably won't buy it, but with such a high base clock it can compete very well with low cost i5s that are often only running around 3 or 3.5 Ghz. Don't forget that i3s have hyperthreading, while i5s don't.

Yeah, but i5s have 4 native cores, which should be faster in all ways than 2C/4T

i5's have four physical cores, though, which provides all-around better multicore performance than any i3. Hyperthreading is not really a factor here.
