Things every techie should own

MrImnotMLG

I was thinking today about what I should get and what I should carry around with me. I thought about what everyone here thinks we should own. This could include anything from a flash drive to a ifixit toolkit. It could be something that you don't carry with you or even use regularly, just things we should have in case the occasion arises. I just want to know what the community sees as important to own.

Before you steal it, make sure you have enough connectors and power to make it work

A racheting screwdriver.  An anti-static wristwrap.

That's my two must-haves.

Currently focusing on my video game collection.

It doesn't matter what you play games on, just play good games you enjoy.

A Victorinox Swiss Army Knife (I prefer the Cybertool L, although I always keep a pair of SwissChamps on standby).

Sweet! But uh, yeah. I like having my Nexus 6P. Pretty useful as a secondary "computer" if the rig is down for troubleshooting--having a built in flashlight is also nice.

I think every true techie should have a Windows 10 tablet, 8 to 10 inches, with at least one full sized USB A port, that they keep charged in their car at all times. That way, they are never more than the distance of their car away from a full Windows PC.

Yes, it's 2871 as in the year 2871. I traveled all this way, back in time, just to help you. And you thought your mama lied when she said you were special-_-

Fastest way to find your carwindow smashed in and your tablet missing in BelgiumxD

Hell, they're even hunting built-in gps systems over here.

Even if you keep the tablet well hidden? Do these people just break into cars randomly looking for things?

The chance of you forgetting to hide your tablet every time in the car is pretty real imo.

Personally I use it maybe once every other month. I just have it there for when I need it. :P

I carry a fiber cloth, 1m HDMI and 1m DVI cables, 7.6m ethernet cable, interchangable screwdriver, 5200 mah powerbank and a 64GB SanDisk Extreme USB drive. Not mentioning my laptop, phone charger etc.

And of course playing cards. Always have 3 different sets with me.

Now that others have mention it, I should buy a flashlight. Phone is not that convenient. Anyone know a good quality, small but not to small flashlight?

The ability to google properly is a skill of its own.
