A small, cheap beater laptop/win 10 tablet. Flash drive. Screwdriver set. Pocket Knife. Flashlight (preferably above 200 lumens). Choice of coffee maker or espresso machine.

And a bunch of people random cables laying around tends to help.

I will double on that beater device. An x86 2 in 1 with Windows and Linux, with good battery, fan less, and for less than $150 out the door at Wal mart is quite great. Not fast, but it makes a great Swiss army knife for the techie and hacker.

Pfft, can your flash light protect you when you are wondering alone in the dark???  /s

You know I heard so many stories about police man using this kind of flash light knock some people out. $T2eC16R,!zQE9s3ssN68BR!yFbfJIg~~60_1.JPG

A racheting screwdriver.  An anti-static wristwrap.

That's my two must-haves.

I've both, but I also have an ifixit screwdriver that works as well/better than a ratcheting screwdriver because it's basically just a little disk on top that you touch with your palm and apply pressure on. I understand that this won't work with larger screwdrivers, but it's a really nice system.

Here's what I'm talking about:

I was thinking today about what I should get and what I should carry around with me. I thought about what everyone here thinks we should own. This could include anything from a flash drive to a ifixit toolkit. It could be something that you don't carry with you or even use regularly, just things we should have in case the occasion arises. I just want to know what the community sees as important to own.

A Smartphone of some description, a USB stick, a Micro USB (or USB-C) to USB-A,

A Powerbank in case of ridiculously high phone usage during the day.

And some headphones..

Uhhhh.... common sense?  Judging by the amount of people complaining about the new MBP and comparing them to gaming laptops, it seems many people lack it quite a lot.

external optical disk drive, this is great for when you don't have internet access and the drivers are on disk.

external hard drive reader (great if you need to clone a drive or try and pull data off)

anti static bags for components that are coming out or need to be set aside of a bit

power supply jumper or wire or paper clip

multi meter

double sided tape

zip ties (even if it's just to keep wires out of the way)

usb, power and video cables of all types (you cannot image how many issues are solved with just this)

canned air

hammer (for when you need to office space the problem)
