That is awesome, if it gets the 90 min of battery life like quoted that's just what Vive needs!

You know. That, and some games to play.

the HMD isn't that much more than 2 very good phone screens

a battery bank should be enough to give it 1h of functionality

It's a feature! So you know when to take a break :P

I am sure people will just plug in a charge cable and continue using it.

Cool, if it works. Gotta keep a bit of healthy skepticism when they're not saying anything about latency.

They're saing a bigger battery would be available in the future to clip to your pocket or belt or something. I think that makes much more sense than strapping any unnecessary weight to your head.

EDIT: Read it again, the battery is to be put into your pocket, not clip to it. I guess that can work too, but I think clipping it to your back would make cable management easier. The same way as wireless lav mics do.

If it really is on par with the wired one (like HTC claims), it would be amazing.

Someone needs to find the clip from a recent wan show where Linus says something along the lines of "wireless VR being 15 years away". xD

I can't read Chinese to confirm. But the 2nd reply to the post on pcper says 15ms latency, which I have to agree means trash or major motion sickness

15ms is very, very good. It should be fine. Remember, most game engines adds like 100ms by themselves, a 60Hz monitor will always have at least 16ms latency, and humans have a built in delay of tens of ms (not talking about reaction time).

A few blind tests by LTT would be good though when this is released. Have like 10 people try and guess if it is wireless or wired by putting on the vive and looking around (while they sit down).

RIP VR Backpacks

They still might be very useful for people who want a very portable VR setup, where they can bring the computer with them to places that don't have power, or where it would be awkward to setup a Desktop.

At work, we're using a BitFenix Prodigy mITX case for our VR PC (Just finished building it today), as this is portable enough for our needs.

They also said you could buy a bigger battery 90 mins is for the base one which is neat, and you could hot swap them since it takes around 90 mins to charge you could just switch out the batteries and charge the other :D

I'm extremely excited for this. We got a Vive at work, and dealing with the cables was going to be a huge hassle.

We were originally going to build a ceiling mounted Rail system that would suspend the cables above you and move with you as you walk around, but even that system isn't perfect (And would probably cost at least as much as this Wireless adapter would, considering materials and labour costs to build a rail system).

If we could buy the Wireless Kit + a couple of the extended batteries, we would.

Haha, one shouldn't play the Vive for that long, but definitely!

I'm not too sure about the solution they have though. That apparatus they have with the battery on top of the head looks awfully uncomfortable.

15ms is not good. Rule of thumb is the maximum total latency that's acceptable for VR is 20ms. We're currently barely hitting that number with wires. Adding 15ms with WiFi...

Hm. We'll see if that holds up in practice, and how much it affects the experience.

Yeah waiting to see reviews to see if it effects the experience at all before I pick one up.
